Guitars will primarily be somewhere between hard rock and sludgy metal with some sort-of-clean tones at times. Les Pauls and SGs, Marks and Rectifiers, V30s and G12M-25s.
What will a 421 do for me that a second SM57 won't?
I'm looking for a second mic to use in conjunction with an SM57.
It'll be plugged into an Apogee Duet. Primarily for recording guitars.
Not sure if I'm better off getting a room mic? Or getting a second close mic? Something that'll do both? I admit I'm not that knowledgeable about the...
I preferred the Recto. At first I thought it was a little too scooped but then the vocals kicked in and it sat nice.
The 6505 was second for me. I preferred it to the Recto when there were no vocals but once the vocals kicked in the amp tone was too in the way for my tastes.

Jazz IIIs are too smooth/not enough attack in them.
I used to use them religiously and I think they made me a better/cleaner player but then I switched amps and couldn't get enough bite on the attack. I experimented a bit and wound up using .88 Tortex for the better part of the last several...
If you take a look at the speakers you'll notice that the Mesa OEM and stock Celestion don't even look the same. The pole pieces are made from different alloys and the pole piece on the Celestion is cast while the Mesa is machined. The back and top plates are also different, as is the magnet...
I'm with this guy.
I used to have a Mesa Straight/Slant and could hear it fine. I traded it for an Orange (straight) and couldn't hear any of the detail. Found myself kneeling/bending over to get my ear lower so I could confirm how it sounded, and I had a tendency to dial in the amp way too...
I play a lot of stoner rock/metal and the drum tracks I've assembled thus far are far to straight forward.
I'm looking for a collection of stuff that has a certain... swing to it.
Any suggestions?
In digital cables there's not a whole lot of advantages of using higher end cables until you start using long lengths. Most people's home theaters shouldn't be running cable long enough to matter.
One example off the top of my head is Cat5 vs Cat5e. Cat5e is required of you want a 1000baseT...
Is there different versions of the HS80M? I found them new locally for $349.
Is it a good idea to pick up a subwoofer so I can hear what's going on in the sub-lows? Or will that distort/exaggerate the bottom end in a negative way for mixing?
