    The new mesa cabclone

Found this earlier today while researching the Cab Clone. Figured I'd repost to see what this forum thought.

    Adding a second mic...

Guitars will primarily be somewhere between hard rock and sludgy metal with some sort-of-clean tones at times. Les Pauls and SGs, Marks and Rectifiers, V30s and G12M-25s. What will a 421 do for me that a second SM57 won't?

    Adding a second mic...

I'm looking for a second mic to use in conjunction with an SM57. It'll be plugged into an Apogee Duet. Primarily for recording guitars. Not sure if I'm better off getting a room mic? Or getting a second close mic? Something that'll do both? I admit I'm not that knowledgeable about the...

    Massive amp shootout

I preferred the Recto. At first I thought it was a little too scooped but then the vocals kicked in and it sat nice. The 6505 was second for me. I preferred it to the Recto when there were no vocals but once the vocals kicked in the amp tone was too in the way for my tastes. I normally like...

    Thinner picks are better?

Jazz IIIs are too smooth/not enough attack in them. I used to use them religiously and I think they made me a better/cleaner player but then I switched amps and couldn't get enough bite on the attack. I experimented a bit and wound up using .88 Tortex for the better part of the last several...

V30 China (normal) vs UK (mesa) comparison

If you take a look at the speakers you'll notice that the Mesa OEM and stock Celestion don't even look the same. The pole pieces are made from different alloys and the pole piece on the Celestion is cast while the Mesa is machined. The back and top plates are also different, as is the magnet...

    Mesa Cab - Speaker Recommendations

Try it in both. Leave it in whatever one sounds better.

Help identifying this mesa 4x12 cab

I'm with this guy. I used to have a Mesa Straight/Slant and could hear it fine. I traded it for an Orange (straight) and couldn't hear any of the detail. Found myself kneeling/bending over to get my ear lower so I could confirm how it sounded, and I had a tendency to dial in the amp way too...

Who uses a Mesa straight cab with the slanted baffle

I've owned both, but not at the same time. To me they sounded the same, but I never A/B'd them side by side.

Where to buy Mesa OEM V30?

Mesa sells them direct. Not sure how it works for Europeans but if you call them they should be able to hook you up with the right person.

Mesa Boogie Tone Burst versus Ibanez TS7 video

I like the Tone Burst. The TS-7 added a bit of a solid state buzz. The Tone Burst seemed to blend with the amp better.

If Bill Ward were a MIDI drum library...

Yeah. His playing is really dot-and-cut... stretches one beat and cuts the next. It's kind of hard to line that up with a grid.

If Bill Ward were a MIDI drum library...

I play a lot of stoner rock/metal and the drum tracks I've assembled thus far are far to straight forward. I'm looking for a collection of stuff that has a certain... swing to it. Any suggestions?

Digital cables - let's debunk this once and for all

In digital cables there's not a whole lot of advantages of using higher end cables until you start using long lengths. Most people's home theaters shouldn't be running cable long enough to matter. One example off the top of my head is Cat5 vs Cat5e. Cat5e is required of you want a 1000baseT...

    Monitors

Is there different versions of the HS80M? I found them new locally for $349. Is it a good idea to pick up a subwoofer so I can hear what's going on in the sub-lows? Or will that distort/exaggerate the bottom end in a negative way for mixing?
