    Huge guitars! New gear! (Speed/shred)

First off, it's not "only 500 hz," it's just a bit more focused there because that's what the amp sounded like. I guess I tend to think of "huge" a little differently. I think of punch and overall force, though I guess I've never really taken the time to define it and you have, so I shouldn't...

    Huge guitars! New gear! (Speed/shred)

You crazy, mang. Amp and cab were Marshall, distortion is almost all from volume. Of course mids are gonna be bumpin'! Most of the guitars' meat comes from the 300-500 Hz area, by design. You're definitely the first person to describe it as thin, but you're entitled to your opinion! Tell me...

    Huge guitars! New gear! (Speed/shred)

I just got a new Sebatron VMP-4000e and decided to use it for a quick demo with a friend. His project is called Infiltrator and it's awesome, catchy Venom/Motorhead stuff with crazy solos. I'm fucking stoked on the rhythm guitars. He was playing a Caparison, going into a Fulltone OCD and...

    Death metal! (Exhumed, Carcass, Ghoul...)

All real! (Snare and kick are real/sample blended.) Though we did reamp the guitars just so we could worry about tone after all the hard work was done. We used my GSP1101 into their 5150 because the amp distortion just wasn't cutting it. If I had my way, I'd reamp it again with something that...

Well that's obviously not getting changed at this point. :-P

    Death metal! (Exhumed, Carcass, Ghoul...)

EDIT: They uploaded such a low-quality MP3 that I found it offensive enough to reupload. The stream below now comes from the WAV. This is a band from Philadelphia called Coffin Dust. Mix/master from this past Saturday. I'm feeling good about this but it's compressed a bit too heavily. I need...

DOOM! No samples, no gates, just evil.

Thanks, guys! The vocals are actually what I'm happiest with, I think that their tone and placement works well for what they do. Dude sounds evil as hell. They actually wanted more reverb and distance, I had to fight for what I got. Regarding guitar tone, we wanted an "old" sound, so we opted...

Woah. Just realized I did the Soundcloud link wrong. My bad. Anyone?

DOOM! No samples, no gates, just evil.

This is the most natural mix I've done in a really long time. Only two guitars instead of multiple layers, no drum samples, no gates, no mercy. I'm very happy with this but would love your thoughts. We wanted it to sound big, open, natural, and nasty without it being overly raw or under-produced.

Death metal (ffo Exhumed, Carcass, Ghoul, Impaled)

My first project since moving out of the basement and into a nicely treated room plus switching from a MOTU HD192 to Aurora 16. This is a work in progress but I'm quite happy with it as is. Would love some feedback.

    Any news on Reaper 4?

I use the prerelease exclusively, totally stable for basic tracking and mixing.

My best work yet! Death metal for fans of Exhumed, Impaled, etc,...

There it is. Snare is brighter and feels "closer," toms have way more depth behind them thanks to fixing an error with the close mics; drum, guitar, and master busses all have console emulation set; brightened the drums and then turned down the high-frequency EQ applied during the master...

My best work yet! Death metal for fans of Exhumed, Impaled, etc,...

Revson: I didn't exactly love the bass tone either but it was what he wanted. I compressed some of the attack out of it, you should have heard it before! And there is a layer of snorting under the vocals at times. I agree about the toms and snare sounding a little far, it's the result of the...

Is there a trick to get comments here or something?

Coffin Dust is a band from Philadelphia. I recorded this over the weekend and as far as I'm concerned, this is my best work yet. As the notes on the site say, I don't normally master things and accidentally clipped one of my Nebula plugins while I was doing it. You'll hear the audio cut out...
