Desperate to find metal that's not Death metal or metal about death...

Ah, but good music is an aesthetic representation of said lryics, if we're not talking about an instrumental. But even without lryics, music represents the ideas, additudes, and beliefs of the artist(s) creating them. Thus good music has these wonderful notes that are an outward extension of...

Desperate to find metal that's not Death metal or metal about death...

Since when is the subject of death not relevant artistically? Oh yeah, I forgot, christians don't die!

    Overrated "Classics"

Constructive debate is fine, and can be quite interesting. But it's hilarious, as witnessed on the Metal-Rules board, and Metal-Archives respectively, that normally sane people shit themselves when their favorite albums are trashed. But Falco is trashing these albums intelligently, and I simply...

Let's all e-fellate Bruce Dickinson - Chemical Wedding

Great album, and my favorite involving Dickinson. I still prefer Killers, but that has nothing to do with Bruce, obviousy. 'The Chemical Wedding' has a mind-bending, if not largely conventional, construct with an unwaivering atmosphere and contextual solos that are actually worth getting excited...

    What makes the best music?

But it has *everything* to do with ideology. Songwriting = ideas. Ideas shaped by a personal worldview of the artist(s), which is the same as, that's right, *ideology*. Face it, some music actually means more than pointless sound shaped into music.

    Progressive Metal That Doesn't Suck?

John Arch - A Twist of Fate I don't think this has been mentioned... Other than that, why not try some classic Prog? King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black Comus - First Utterance Van Der Graaf Generator - Pawn Hearts Camel - The Snow Goose

    Is Summoning good?

A lot Summoning's material isn't really "Metal" in any traditional sense, which, in this case, is a very good thing.

    Metal Archives

I have two sides to my musical tastes: art and entertainment. If I want to hear great art, I don't read Boris. But I'm pretty sure that an album he rates 88% or more will at least make me smile.

    Metal Archives

I never liked Emperor much, but I need to re-evaluate that review, I'm sure. But I honestly have no interest in doing so. Feel free to bug a mod to delete it if you wish.

    Metal Archives

I used to submit reviews (as The Ghost of Room237) all the time. But in the last year or so I really haven't been inspired to write much. Besides, most of my reviews were accepted in the early days when the standards were quite low. For that reason, I think all of them got through; although some...
