    Superior Drummer 3

I expect I can bring in drums from other libraries, which means I'll have to make sure I can match up the room sounds properly, and to have all the libraries installed. Or I can probably use an XDrum or whatever the SD3 equivalent is to bring in one of the new cymbals - but it'll be the same...

    TSE BOD v3.0

I was getting this issue in Sonar too, so I had to ditch it for the album I was recording at the time. I'll try again with 3.0!

    Superior Drummer 3

It's hard to see that this is worth the upgrade price to me, although the tap-to-find MIDI feature will be helpful. My main concern is that there aren't enough cymbal slots. I don't know who thought it was more important to have a ton of surround mics than to have enough cymbals, but it seems...

    Doom/death/gothic mix, seeking advice

Sorry for the slow reply; I've been away at Bloodstock Festival watching Slayer, Kataklysm, Belphegor, and, er, Avantasia... Alex: the tom chain is a separate EQ on each tom (high pass and mid-cut varying slightly for each one, and a high end boost), then each one has 2 sends, one to the...

    Doom/death/gothic mix, seeking advice

I don't really want to blend in samples; I think that will take away from the 'human' feel of the performance. I just want to find a way to process the drums in a way that makes them sound more like the samples would! The snare and toms ae already parallel compressed and have the highs boosted a...

Twilight's Embrace - new song 'The Dry Land' released

Hey all, this is a lyric video we did for my band Twilight's Embrace, who play doom-death metal with gothic metal overtones. If you like Katatonia, Swallow The Sun, Paradise Lost, Insomnium, etc., you might like us. We have our first album coming out later this year, and this is the first...

    Doom/death/gothic mix, seeking advice

Hey all, I've done a mix for my band Twilight's Embrace and would be interested to hear feedback. We're going for a deliberately organic sound with this recording, especially with the drums, which I know some of you will cringe at because they're far from the hyper-processed and quantized...

    Epic Doom Metal need critique

Sounds good to me. Good bottom end. I'm no expert, but I got the feeling it could do with a little more air, but maybe that's just the price you pay for giving some space to the keyboards when they come in. Personally I would probably roll off a little of the low end on the piano when it's...

    How do keep drummer sane?!?

We made our drummer play to clicks for months before we went into the rehearsal room. We found out that way that one song had to come down by 10bpm for him to be able to play it, but as a result he ended up nailing that one in about 30 minutes in the studio. On the other hand, parts in other...

Gothic/doom-death mix - not happy with it, would like suggestions

Terminus - nope, have never put reverb on any rhythm guitars. There's reverb on the lead or clean guitar, vocals, and the snare drum. Interesting that you think the drums need to be louder because some feedback I got suggested the drums were too loud. everybody's x - the snare is parallel...

Twilight's Embrace (doomdeath/gothic metal) - new EP 'Traces' out next week

British dark metal band "Twilight's Embrace" are set to release new EP "Traces", their first since last year's appearance at the Bloodstock Open Air festival. As with its predecessor 'Reflections', the three songs showcase many different aspects of the band’s sound, which has seen favourable...

Gothic/doom-death mix - not happy with it, would like suggestions

Ok, I removed the eq cut I had on the upper mids/low highs for the rhythms, pushed the bass down 1 dB, cut a bit more of the mids from the snare and pushed it up 2dB, and pushed the limiter 3dB harder. I'm still not happy with the snare though - still doesn't seem punchy enough and I don't know...

Gothic/doom-death mix - not happy with it, would like suggestions

Interestingly the very last thing I did before bouncing this mix was reduce the snare by about 3dB as I thought it was too loud before. Maybe just reducing the mids would have been enough. I'll see if I can take a few of the low mids out and restore any missing higher frequencies. Possibly...

Gothic/doom-death mix - not happy with it, would like suggestions

Typical - it says that "only people with the link can listen to it", so I give out the link... and no, that's not enough. :) It's set as public now, so it should be there if anybody wants to take a listen.
