    Friday Post: Slipknot Versus Opeth

Funny you should mention that, because just today I was listening to Slipknot and it struck me how I had never noticed that the poly-amorous cadences so wonderfully put to use in Wait and Bleed actually serve as a three-pronged commentary on the final third of the song Ghost of Perdition...

    Watershed - Questions - New Fan !!

In answer to this, I'm guessing that posts made on other forums hosted by ultimatemetal.com count towards this total. I've only made a few posts on the Opeth forum but my total would suggest otherwise...

    Benighted is pure love

Benighted captures an incredible atmosphere, I've heard nothing like it before or since. Everything about the track is perfect and Mike's voice and lyrics are :notworthy

    Opeth songs you hate

:OMG: I find it hard to believe anyone that appreciates good music could ever tire of ghost of perdition. I mean, it doesn't have the same effect on me now as the first 50 listens, but it's still probably the single greatest achievement in Opeth's catalogue.

Opeth and my crystal ball: Predictions for the next album

As your dear friend it pains me to say this is an epic fail of a post. Premature is an understatement. Plus, I think second guessing the next Opeth album will be an exercise in futility.

    Opeth songs you hate

Ok, yes, not a great thread - but I am oddly compelled to post my thoughts. Disclaimer - not particularly songs I hate, but songs which I don't feel do justice to Mikael's creativity as exemplified in Opeth's many masterpieces. Porcelain Heart - The opening riff is my favourite riff of the...

    Opeth - Watershed, Review #2

Couldn't agree with you more. To me, the difference between Axe and Lopez is the difference between excellent drumming and exceptional drumming. There is nothing at all to criticize about the drumming on Watershed, but also nothing that makes the drums stand out above the music. Lopez at his...

    Modern Prog-Rock

^^^ True, not in terms of superficial aesthetics at least. But these are the only bands that inspire us to want to be musicians. They influence us to the extent that we want to emulate their achievement in depth of imagination.

    Opeth – Watershed, Review #1

Hibernal Dream, if you bothered to read the first paragraph of the review you would notice that it is only intended as a 'first impressions' review.. a precursor to a more in-depth review soon to come. I think this is perfectly acceptable and Russell has done, as always, a great job. :)

    Dark Tranquillity - Fiction

^^^ Exactly. You can fault Fiction for not having very high aspirations, but you can't fault the songwriting or integrity on display. The first two tracks are exceptional examples of imaginative, solid songwriting, and the rest of the album is very solid too. And the production value is fucking...
