The Infamous BBE Sonic Maximizer on Recorded Guitar Tone

Here's a great little writeup of the hardware Sonic Maximizer by a guy who was trying to unravel the mysteries cooked up by BBE's marketing team: http://www.radio-flier.com/bbe_data.htm. He says: He goes on to compare it to the dbx 3bx, a very old "3-band dynamic range enhancer"...

Need help from any native english speaker

I'd love to help too if possible. I've always kind of wondered if non-native English-speaking musicians ever thought about getting some help with their lyrics and pronunciation. PM me, maybe you can split the workload up between us and have it done faster.

Anyone ever remove damper noise from a piano track?

Seconded. For me, a little bit of pedal noise is one of those natural, incidental sounds that accompanies a "real" piano recording and indicates that the part was performed on a physical piano (as opposed to the virtual acoustic pianos that a lot of bands have to settle for due to budget, time...

Arjen Lucassen Star One guitar sound

It's pretty cool the way he set up his tracking rig on that high desk. Since he's only recording himself in there, it makes a lot of sense to have a higher desk so it's more comfortable to manipulate the DAW from a standing position. I wonder how much of his guitar sound was POD before.

    EZDrummer/Guitar Pro problem

If I remember correctly, doesn't EZDrummer only have 2 rack toms and 1 floor tom in the default kit? In that case, the MIDI data wouldn't trigger one of the tom tracks because you can only have a maximum of 3 toms. If you need 4 toms, just take that same MIDI track after triggering with...

    New Power Metal mix

Seconding the suggestion for reverb/delay on vox and snare, those elements sound very dry right now. The cymbals are pretty quiet, and I'd bring up the lows in the bass too.The rhythm guitars have a really digital sound to them, especially when there's palm muting, but it's not a major issue...

    Misery Index Heirs To Thievery

Well as long as we're talking about their name, here's a tidbit from Metal-Archives:

click tracks in Reaper....an easier way?!?!

He means the timebase in your project settings. Go to File>Project Settings, then under the Project Settings tab, look for "Timebase for items/envelopes/markers" and choose "Beats (position only)."

    Drum editing practice

This is a very clever approach. If you often find yourself having to replay a drummer's part on keyboard because he couldn't cut it, this will improve your skills at playing keyboard drums and editing! As for unedited drums, here is a thread: Free tracks to mix anyone?

Female fronted Progressive Metal - NO AUTOTUNE - my best mix ever.

I don't get this. If she is classically trained, she is absolutely correct not to belt out the notes. Belting won't literally "ruin" that kind of voice, which is the point you seem to be objecting to, but it's detrimental to traditional technique and is a bad habit to fall into (that is, forcing...

Hardcore Mix, Let me know what you think!

The drums are getting totally squashed by your limiter. If you're mastering the project yourself, try out Slate's quick and dirty guide to making your shit loud without killing the drums: http://www.ultimatemetal.com/forum/production-tips/278894-getting-your-loudness-2.html#post5846740 . Some interesting things about games and audio

I guess it was too expensive to license Auto-Tune from Antares? That or maybe they thought seeing Auto-Tune on the box would turn off all the kids who think it's "cheating" (even though all the music they listen to is pitch-corrected).

Remix of a track i put up here recently- comments?

Sounds good, but the low end needs some attention. The mix is very sub-bass heavy to the extent that when the sub drop hits at 2:38, it doesn't really have the impact it should. Work on controlling the bass guitar and cutting some of the lows out of those toms. Besides that, I'd back off the...

    Free tracks to mix anyone?
