Here is a track from a m EP of a band I tracked and just believe I finished mixing. The mix is band approved, so I am probably going with this without any drastic changes. It was a "free job" afterall. There is always a next time ;)...

Digging the music. Must be a good live band. As far as what you are going for I would say you are pretty much there. Personally I would have like some more power to the drum shells. Maybe opened the soundstage up more to allow for a bigger sense of space.

These files cancel out perfectly in a null-test within REAPER. Are you sure they're not the same file?

This popped out at Musikmesse 2012. Haven't heard about them before, but they've been around in for some time it seems. Kind of interested. I guess what sticks out is the 30dB attenuation and internal damping to reduce the boxy nature if such a device. Any takes? http://www.grossmann-audio.de/

Really depends on the style really, but for dense metal I would try.. Have your OH pickup mostly cymbals, then toms and less snare. Also have some off-axis rejection from the hi-hat. Trigger toms and kicks (I'd not bother with the snare - see below). Your drummer will probably want to monitor...

If you're worried about spectral balance, have them track their part with a different amp each pass. Share the gear, so to speak.

I remember a time in this studio once. The guy basically reamped through his monitor controller, carefully setting the level, but he also recorded the DI with a 500K input load. I haven't run the numbers, but it might make sense now. It didn't sound bad or anything.

Word! I've just ordered a DIY 51x rack and I know I will have to fill it with something too :/
