Critique My Tutorial 'Tightening up Low End'

Kinda OT but I've thought about doing tutorials numerous times only to scrap them in frustration. I'm in this gig for sound, not video, but I still want my vids to be somewhat pro. Someone should do a tutorial on how to make tutorials. :Spin:

Vocal cuts and clash with cymbals.

This is a great idea. If cymbals are eating into vocal clarity a side chain that ducks from 3000-5000hz on the cymbals would be more effective and natural sounding that simply ducking the high end. There isn't a lot of information beyond 10k for a vocal to fuss about but there is alot around 4K...

How to recording an acoustic with only one condenser mic ?

Martin's tend to have a fat bottom so they'll sound nice in a sparse arrangement.... and give you hella mud in something dense. :yuk: You could always use a HP and low cut shelf in a pinch but that's less than ideal. Just stay the fuck away from the soundhole!

    Making the switch to X64

Speaking of that, the only thing is bridged plugins like to float and pop up automatically. Its annoying compared to the those that stay in the window but whatever

How to recording an acoustic with only one condenser mic ?

Yeah this is really important. For example if its just a vocal and acoustic guitar, he can afford to have some bottom end in the guitar. If he's trying to force acoustic guitar into a thick mix with distorted guitars, he'll have to go for a much thinner sound to get them to cut. No acoustic...

How to recording an acoustic with only one condenser mic ?

Hey man, just stick with one mic. No real need to complicate things cause phase will bite you if you screw up. 1 foot away and pointed at the 12th fret is a good starting place. Be careful where you play at though cause room acoustics come into play alot more when you start using condensers. How...

    Making the switch to X64

Mackie must have their shit together then. Alot of companies like to drag their feet with this kind of stuff. Cockos is usually on top of it so its no surprise reaper works with win 8.

    Making the switch to X64

Hey Sloan, you know you don't have to use REAPER 32bit just to use 32bit plugs, right? I use REAPER 64 and most of mine are 32 except for a few with install options like Melodyne. Reaper's bridging works great. @OP Btw, Cubase has j-bridge but you have to buy it separately I think.

    New KayseeKay mix

Here's a song of mine I've been working on and I'm pretty happy with it. The only complaint I got was the clean vocals were kinda "plain". I'm kind of minimalistic when it come to my vocals but I've added in some chorus to give it something extra. Oddly enough, actually doubling the take didn't...

    Making the switch to X64

If you're worried about compatibility it isn't as bad as you think. At least for REAPER, anyway. I was able to import all by 32bit plugins from my old computer when I made the switch to 64bit Windows 7 and have no trouble using them within REAPER. Other DAWs might not play so nice. As far as...
