Classics is just the name of the highlighted section. It's supposed to be in regards to anything not necessarily new.
Right - they're just placeholder tags, as they have been since we launched pretty much....hey, we're approaching the six month anniversary!.....anyway, it's a combination of release date and whether anything has succeeded the release since it became available.

For example, Yngwie Malmsteen's Attack would garner a spot in the New Releases section. It's certainly not that new, but it's not exactly 'old' either and it is his latest. All his previous (regardless of rating) would be 'classic'.

As for Arch Enemy's Wages of Sin - I think NAD's review pretty much sums it up, and it's particularly interesting to read an AE review from someone who grew up on Carcass.

First time I heard Wages of Sin I thought "this is supposed to be original!?!?" The riffs get a 9, the songwriting gets a 7, and the originality gets a 5. With a very impressive vocalist and a highly efficient rhythm section, final score: 8/10. :)

I have grown quite fond of Purgatory Afterglow since writing my review, I may need to revisit that review in a few months. Black Tears and Blood-colored are frickin' masterpieces.

Another chink in the CoB armor, I'll probably never buy a CD of theirs without hearing it extensively.

Another reminder that I need some Amon Amarth... especially since I don't have any Viking metal!

I think the review of the No Colors Records sampler was excellent - our Erik is an SME no doubt. Based on the review, I'm intrigued by:

Suicidal Winds
Iuvenes (& Morrigan)
Satanic Warmaster

I'm revisiting the Woodtemple again...Feel the Anger of the Wind (album) is actually quite good from beginning to end - not quite as 'epic' as the Graveland I've heard - perhaps slightly more from the 'underbrush'...

Note that Amon Amarth is viking death metal. It's actually quite different to plain viking metal, which perhaps sounds a bit more like black metal...heh.

I think you'd like Amon Amarth, they'll pound your skull in, but don't go into it thinking you're going to hear any technical wizardy! You can play the guitar solos with two fingers! In this case, less is more...

Cool, thanks. Two finger solos rule, just like that kid in that movie about Nazi Germany! I forget the name... d'oh.

It was an album that grew on me more and more over time, so I'm not surprised. Your review is good, I agree completely with Song of Sirens, it blows. I think it's good though that they put it at the end, I can just press stop. The rest of the album is so perfect though that it only drops it to a 9.5 for me.

Thanks man. It will definitely go up in rating as time goes on, I got goosebumps while listening to Blood-colored a few nights ago (while driving through a graveyard, I'm so damn metal :p ), that hasn't happened with new or new-to-me music for quite some time.

I agree about Purgatory probably needing several listens...because I have to assume I haven't listened to it enough yet, just because it's not clicking with me.

To be fair, it's not like I've given it a chance either, but it does go to show how amazing Crimson is the first time you hear it, and then it just keeps getting better still.

I just did... :p
Good job! I wonder how many people there listened to your Nasheim mp3 and were blown away. :D

Isn't it funny how fanboys get so upset over shite like that? I mean seriously, musical taste is pretty damn subjective, and it's not like Erik's review spoke in similar language as used to attack him: "ohhh, dis CD is teh GAY..."

I have never heard CoB by the way, not sure I want to anyhow. :Spin:

Crimson continues to grow with every listen, but Purgatory has grown more in a shorter amount of time, due to the fact that I didn't like it at all my first listen. :)

I was tempted to tell him to listen to that MP3...

You should have.

Hey slight change of subject - did you notice my comment about your No Colors sampler review? I was listening to Woodtemple after your review of the song "Feel the Anger...", and I really believe you might have a slightly different take on the album if you were to listen to it in its entirey. There's a particular song called "The Crow of the Shadow Wood" that I'd love to hear your opinion on - I think you might like it man. Can I send you a CD-R of the album for a possible review?

Yes... I would be interested in hearing the whole thing, sure. Send me a CD-R and I'll review it, definitely.
