Although belated....

Freddie Mercury's death was the first "rock star death" that really had an emotional imact on me.

It was also the first time AIDS affected me, up to that point, I had not really been impacted by it. I felt impending doom and such great waste.

Now that I look back, I think it's the first time I had to deal with the fact a gay person had affected my life (music does affect us - right?).

His death really made me change the way I think about things.

It's always interesting to look back on the things that made us what we are today.

Aside from "unrespectful" not being a real word... I wasn't being disrespectful, just stating what I believe to be fact. In the same way that someone like Kurt Cobain was heavily overrated and had his status unduly amplified post mortem, so is the case with Mercury.

Nice to see it takes me less than 24 hours to have ruffled some feathers here :Smug:

Well, Freddie was still very much alive and thriving when I was a fan, and I got to listen to Queen's music as it was being released (the first time). I assure you his talent has not been overrated.

Kurt Cobain…*any better reference ? Mercury had light years more talent than Cobain it's obvious

Hey, how about we stop arguing about what is and isn't "overrated"? Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I like Freddie Mercury, I like Kurt Cobain, I "rate" them as I see fit, and obviously everyone else does the same. In other words, don't be a "queen of the informed".

Oh, and technically, Freddie wasn't gay, he was bisexual. In fact, I believe he had a serious girlfriend at the time of his death.

Yep, I stand corrected, he was actually bisexual, I used to wrong term. At the time when he was alive and rocking, I considered him gay since I didn't know about the women in his life. That was the angle I was writing about, but it didn't come across well.

I meant no offense with that.

Also..this thread is obviously intended to be a tribute thread. It bugs me when someone just has to pop in and troll.

English is a really hard language to learn. "Un" this, "dis" that, "anti" the other -- it's a wonder that we who were born into it can make sense of it.

Our friend hails from France, so I'm betting he knows a lot more French (language) than we do.

I'm not used to seeing folks on this forum stirring things up on a tribute thread, nor am I used to seeing folks picking on people for a grammatical error. You've done both now, in the same thread too.
