has anyone thought putting two close snare mics like a Beta 98 Amp which gets really close to capture the attack and an 57 a little further away to capture more of the body?

with the close one you'll get the punch and with the other one you will get more highs and a blend of the two could work nicely. of course don't forget to align the tracks properly to avoid phase issues.

Couldn't you just match eq one mic duplicated to get the same effect?

But seriously, it's a very, very popular trick. People tape C451s, KM184/84s, all kinds of SDCs to a 57 and blend them on a regular basis.

Yup, it's done all the time, though usually the capsules get lined up from the get-go.

But taping two microphones on the same spot won't capture the same sound slightly different? The point I think is to capture a really close transient and one a further away to get a fuller image. Like DavePiatek said. One mic at 1" and one at 3". If you put both on 2" for example it will capture the same sound.

It definitely will not capture the same sound. Different mics sound different.
I meant what the microphone will hear. Not what it will pick up. Both microphones will hear the same sound before capturing it.

I saw pics of recording sessions with Logan Mader and he taped a SM57 and a RE20 on the snare. I don't know if he blends both mics or if it's to have two options just in case tho.

You can really hear the body of the snare in the clip. Good job. Are there any samples there at all?
Which was the band/song?
