A report by KPMG, commissioned by the Brumby Government, found there had been an increase in reports of violence during the lockout trial, including an increase in reported assaults between midnight and 2am.

There was also an increase in assault-related ambulance trips between 8pm and midnight compared to those in the three months prior to the lockout.

Honestly, no surprises there. What did they expect?

Wow, what a surprise. That whole idea was ridiculous in the first place. The ID scanning thing is a much better idea imo. It'll keep the trouble-makers out of pubs without punishing everyone else too.

In goulburn where I'm from we had a 1am lockout for the last 10 years to stop street violence.

Everyone just started drinking earlier in the day.

Maybe it might be more successful around somewhere like Mt Druitt where they can't possibly start drinking earlier in the day.
Can't drink while you're still asleep.

"What the legislation before the Parliament does is give the director of Liquor Licensing the power that she needs to enforce a lockout in a particular area in the future, should she deem it necessary."

This is a much better idea. It's still not perfect, but really, if the problems are only associated with one venue or one locality, how does shutting down the entire city help that?
