Not strictly metal, but worthy of attention nonetheless, Italy's 2econd Lass provide an intriguing mixture of goth, rock, electronica and psychedelia on this concept album. The concept is quite in-depth and difficult to concisely explain, but it contains references to Ziggy Stardust (the extra-terrestrial onstage persona adopted by David Bowie in the early 70's), alternate personalities in general and discomfort with oneself.

All of these themes are illustrated by emotive and intricate songwriting drawing on influences as diverse as Depeche Mode, Pink Floyd, Duran Duran and more contemporary acts such as HIM and The Gathering. Each song is seperate and distinct from the others, dispite the conceptual theme linking them. 'The Egosexual Song' is something of a balls-out rocker, while 'Love At Mirror' sparingly uses guitars preferring instead to float on the the currents of piano/synths and Antonio Mauve's vocals (themselves quite reminiscent of a cross between HIM's Villa Valo and Depeche Mode's singer).

It's a particularly accessible album too, with enough poppy hooks to rope in perhaps even the most rock-phobic listeners, and yet it is deep and thoughtful enough for those who don't really want another disposable slice of bubblegum-rock. Well worth checking out.
