I need to buy new monitors around 300-400 USD (pair), so I was wondering if you guys can give some recommendations. Most of the time I will be mixing metal in a small room with no treatment (so far).

I bought my pair of Yamaha HS80Ms on craigslist for a total of 300$, yep it was a steal, in perfect condition, I love them too. Maybe you can search craigslist

I have a pair of JBL LSR monitors, the smaller 5 inch cone ones, they were 199 a piece brand new. I shot them out with a couple mixes I know well against the tannoys, the krk, and the yamahas of the same price range and they came out the winner. I was facing a similar scenario of having to move to a smaller space. I think they sound very honest if you set them up correctly and stay in the sweet spot. So far the mixes ive done on them have not been shocking when i play them on other systems. I have since moved to a larger apartment / mixing room where ive been able to put up some treatment and im gassing for some bigger speakers, probably a more pronounced midrange yamaha type... but for what they are I think they are fantastic and I think they will be valuable to have around for A / B purposes for a long time to come.
