gonna put on my hard-ass hat here because frankly this music is not as fantastic as you think it is.

good points:

* the few riff ideas they have are pretty good
* the recordings are conducive to a certain type of atmosphere

bad points:

* all the songs are exactly the same
* the lyrics are the whiniest, most embarrassing shit i've ever seen
* the vocalist is not really a good singer, has exactly one emotional mode and one melody (with variations of the same)

i've listened a lot to this, trying to get it. and you know, it's all listenable, pretty nice. but all the AOTY and 100%:s everywhere? no! how deprived of actual amazing music do you have to be to give this a 100%? get frickin real bros! reality check: epicus doomicus metallicus is a 100%.

here's a nail-on-the-head fragment from a metal-archs review by a dude:

As far as emotions go it's a step above apathy, and a step below melancholy at best- just not very interesting to talk about. Yeats once said something along the lines of passive suffering never creating interesting art- dude is onto something. 50 odd minutes of whining about bitches- yeah, we've all been there, but it's not an interesting scene.

this is not doom metal so much as it is so-called "depressive suicidal black metal" but with clean vocals

i.e. annoying, pubertal, whiny, grating, not nearly as important as it thinks it is

there's no dynamics in the music either, it's just the same freakin riffs over and over again with no drama, no building up to anything, no resolutions or climaxes. just play the same freakin riff for a bit til you don't feel like playing it any more.

and you know, i can deal with whiny music (mid-period anathema? LOVE IT,) i can deal with repetitious music, i can deal with slow music, these are not issues in themselves. i can even deal with music with poor quality singing. and i've tried. i own the warning album on cd, i've listened to the 40 watt sun album a million times on cd-r trying to figure out what the hell is so amazing, but all i hear are bad vocal melodies.

not exciting or revolutionary or emotional, or indeed even very good.

is "nerd rage" your new favourite thing to say bro

cause if youre gonna use it that much you should understand what it means

it doesnt mean "hey look. a chill guy is saying he dont like something so much" it means "i do declare that the new star trek is in every way inferior to old startrek, henceforth, therefore, shall i by no means support, or do support forthwidth, the owner and publisher(s) of this "so called" television show, STAR TREK LLC, INC, CORP. good sir good day."

So now you're nerd raging about my use of the term nerd rage?

Jeez man. Relax. Listening to some Warni... oh right

lol i'm the least raging and most chillaxing bro youll ever find in the world. i just think correct use of language, even when theyre internet terms, is a cool thing.

incorrect use of terms is what helps to enrich the trolling experience my friend

you are not trolling youre just saying a thing

IF ANYTHING:.. this thread trolled you because you care about a bad band

although that was not the intention, the intention is to set the record straight about a bad band which has been called good way too often by way too many people

Pallbearer decimates these lowly bands. Think of Warning with the ability to structure a song that has a beginning, middle, and end.

It took me 4 years to enjoy Watching From A Distance as much as I do now. The only defense to them I can give is to keep listening over time. Don't give up on it. I used to think similar things about both Warning and 40 Watt Sun but I'm glad I stuck with it. Different strokes for different folks, but Warning is a very important band and I find it very amusing that Candlemass OR Pallbearer should even be compared. They will never make an album like Watching From A Distance. EVER.
