42

isnt the golden ratio the meaning of life and the universe and everything?

Something like 1.618033989......

On a side note, I believe Mr V refers to this golden ratio in Vision from the Spiral Generator.

I remember reading something like that in the DaVinci code, wasnt sure wether it was real or not though=) That number i think was the building stone for everything.

It is totally real.

Natural spiral forms are based on a geometrical interpretation of this number.

Also, the Parthenon in Athens was built following this same "golden rectangle" geometrical form of the golden ratio.

I believe the great pyramids were also built following this ratio.

There's also a number of vital functions is any living organism that work along lines based on the golden ratio.

Another image, this time refrerring to the very freaky relation between the earth/moon ratio and the pyramids of egypt

four dimensional: how come 42 could be the meaning of life or whatever you were talking about..? any references or link to a website that explains what you really mean??

lol, he obviously refers to "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaky" by Douglas Adams. Some being tells the protagonists that the meaning of life is 42, or the like.

I always wanted to read this book but I haven't done this, yet... :-/

There's always the movie, which looked worse than the new Star Wars movies (something I didn't think was possible).

Not a he, but otherwise correct.

The movie was a huge disappointment. I recommend the 80s TV series of it, it's a helluva lot funnier, and more on track with the book.

All this talk of golden ratio is interesting though.. I was recently introduced to the idea as applied to art, photography, and painting.
Definitely something worth looking into...

Gyllene snittet-minimering/Golden ratio-minimization is the best way to do a linear search over an interval of a (preferably) convex function, you just "half" the interval with the golden ratio, and it converges much faster than just if you half it all the time. Which is intresting and boring

Alec Walter Conway: its a shame that the earth is ellipsoid shaped and not strictly spherical ;)
