Rest in peace, brother dime.

Seems like It was yesterday I was signing on to my AIM to come across "Dimebag Darrel of Pantera dead" on the news..

If it wasn't for the solo in Cemetary Gates, I wouldn't be a lead guitarist.

I was watching an interview at guitar.com and at the bottom of the page it said that someone had posted a thread about Dime being shot. It turned out that the guy who posted it was one of the people at that show and just got home. 20 minutes later it was on CNN. As the details kept coming in, I remember just feeling really physically sick. People OD and die in really stupid ways all of the time, but that such a genuine and kind person was murdered on stage...by some nutbag for things that were out of his control...really messed me up. Especially still being a teenager at the time, you thought of those guys as larger than life. Having someone be able to take them away didn't seem possible.

My old band has played at the Alrosa Villa Several times and and had been going there since i was 16.....It hits to close for home for me.......i can't even really go back to the alrosa ....its just weird i dunno.......

Damn it i miss the dude

Same here.
That one and Hollow still gives me goosebumps!

In my eyes, Diamond/Dimebag was the greatest leadplayer ever.. not because he was a virtuoso, but his solos are soooo coherent and really soulful.
You can hear that there is true emotion behind them, which is not heard amongst too many guitarists these days. :/

Man, I know how that feels.
I was 16 when he died.
Only that same year, only months earlier, I had only just gotten into Pantera.
Like a lot of guys I'd been rocking the thrash metal albums first, all the usual Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth etc, and then one day I just figured "What the hey, I'll go buy a Pantera album".

I put on Cowboys from Hell, and it just blew me away. It was so fucking powerful, so full of aggression and rage and it just clicked instantly.
Then I found out Dimebag died, it was just a massive shock to me, because only months earlier I'd just discovered this guitarist Dimebag and he was a new guitar hero to me:(

Dime was a huge influence on me, as far back as when I was about 2 or 3, listening to metal, wanting to play guitar, and was a huge influence to me as a musician. Its his impact on me that has created my desire to do something with music, just like so many others.

I know most of you have had a cold one for Brother Dime, so to that I say cheers, and may Dime shred throughout the afterlife and through eternal glory!
