5150 Power issue

Hey guys,

A studio mate of mine has a 5150 combo that he purchased 8 months ago and I told him you guys on the forum might be of help to him.

He turns on the 5150 and nothing happens. No lights, no power. Any idea what it might be? Fuse maybe? I haven't taken a look but I talked to him on the phone. I know he retubed it when he bought it, so they shouldn't be an issue I dont think. Has this happened to anyone before?

No power at all? Fuse problem.

The first thing to check with these kinds of problems are the fuses. The problem will likely get fixed if you put some new in.

Otherwise take it to a pro.

A one time fuse blow is usually fine, usually just a power spike or something wacky. Repeated fuse failure is caused by something like shot powertubes or fried components.

Could a power spike affect only one amp in a room, leaving the other amps fine?

Well, I'm sure it depends on which outlets the amps are plugged into. For some reason spikes don't happen to every outlet in the same room (most of the time), so it's possible that your friend was just unlucky that time. If you're worried if your amp has been affected, as long as it's working normally, then you have nothing to worry about.

My apologies, guys, it wasn't even a 5150, I was thinking it was the wrong amp--it was a XXX. And evidently it was the tubes, not the fuse. (I still don't understand why the power lights wouldn't go on). Anyway, it works now.
