A chain to your ancestors

hehe, the only cool thing on the page was the viking-bed, that one i'd really like to spend my nights in. but i guess it would cost a fortune :( and with my present economical situation i might be able to buy one of the bedposts :)

Errr... excuse me? Viking bed? What is that supposed to look like ? ;) I always thought Vikings slept, if at all in beds, on rather simple ones (such ones you can easily make yourself with some pieces of wood and glue :) )

I didn't know that the Vikings used glue? ;)

The Osberga discoveries are extraordinary and unique, in these we can see what they used during the Viking age. They discovered furniture, textiles, and households, beautifully decorated with dragons and mythological motives. The bed is a 100 % handmade copy of the bed that was found, naturally without nails or other metal items. The discovery is dated to 815-820 A.D., and the place is Vestfold, Norway.

The bed only takes a couple of weeks to make. But the wood have to bin dryed for a year before you can use it.
And i don´t think the vikings used money, i think they traded with eachother. :)
So perhaps many of the vikings built their own bed, with there own pattern.

Hmm, vikings actually used money... they were really good traders, and not only amongst themselves :) At Birka, also coins from Arabia were found, quite far reaching, actually...

Still I doubt that the normal "every-day" viking had such a nice bed :) That was rather a ceremonial bed, if it's from the Oseberg found. Or a bed of kings, a normal farmer (or whatever profession he might had) would not have valued decorations that high I guess. And these crafts were rather well paid in those times, since it took a great deal of craftsmanship to get that done (it took like 200 years to develop that style the Oseberg found resembles, and it's the height of Viking craftsmanship)

Well, enough of history... it's still a great piece I must say... and I'm sure once I've got the money I'll call you up on that! :D

Just one thing... in what dimensions can you make it? ;) You know... the people in the middle ages were not THAT tall compared to today... I'd like to stretch out in a bed hehe

Well, just need to know :) Other than that: *bows down* Great craftsmanship, man! :) Skål! (Am I right when I assume that this is actually your page?? At least you seem to know the craft ;) )

Oh, nice, fast reply :) :)

Well, I guess if it were that WE buy a bed, it would have to be for TWO persons :) But I'll interogate you further about this later hehe, first have to talk about that with her :)

But it would be really great, I must say :D
