Who is at least intrigued to hear the new GnR material (if it ever eventually surfaces)? I was just browsing through CDuniverse and noticed that Geffen Records are releasing a new 'Best Of' CD and I was wondering if this might be in preparation for the new album...?

I noticed that this morning. Why the fuck would they have a greatest hits, they only had 3 proper albums! From the Kayo Dot forum (courtesy lizard):

GUNS N' ROSES' 'Chinese Democracy': $13 Million In Production Costs (And Counting) - Mar. 15, 2004

A Universal Music spokesman has dismissed as "meritless" the lawsuit brought by GUNS N' ROSES singer Axl Rose against the company seeking to prevent them from releasing a "greatest hits" album. "Fortunately, since the court has denied their application for a temporary restraining order, the album will be released as scheduled on March 23," Universal's Peter LoFrumento told Reuters.

Although Geffen (a unit of Universal Music Group under Vivendi Universal) officials had no further comment on the dispute, a source familiar with the situation told Reuters that the label has been waiting seven years for Rose to deliver "Chinese Democracy" and has poured $13 million into production of that album after repeated promises that he was about to finish the project.

"Every year there's been a new reason why Axl is not done with the record," the source told Reuters, adding that Geffen went ahead with the greatest-hits package only because Rose failed to come through with "Chinese Democracy". "Had he delivered this record like he promised seven years ago, this would not be happening right now."

A representative for Rose was not immediately available for comment, according to Reuters.
I'll probably buy the album if it ever surfaces, but I doubt it ever will.

EDIT: I just looked at the tracklist for the greatest hits, those have to be some of the shittiest songs they ever did. No Mr. Brownstone? Bah.

The massive expectation of GnR "Use Your Illusion I & II" was like holding back on a jerk off while you decide which porno page to jettisoned your rocks off!! They are classic albums and are the apex of their rollercoaster career.

I'm curious how their new album will sound like though. I'm sure it'll be better that Metallica's last effort - sellouts, whores, mothers bitches and scum.

I borrowed a Kerrap off a mate dated January 10th 2004, and...hang on...

"...After receiving a CD marked 'New GN'R' in the mail, New York Mets baseball catcher Mike Piazza played a track called 'IRS' on NY radio DJ Eddie Trunk's show in August..."

Ok, so it's seven months on from August, but you can take that as a sign that there's been developments. Apparently the album is promised for this year, but like Kerrap said, they say that every year.

If I have money in my pocket I will probably buy it, if simply to lay to rest the ghosts of my past. I remember waiting anxiously for that album three years ago, it was getting delayed at exactly the same times as Destroyer Of Worlds by Bathory was, I remember! I also remember me and my mates buying tickets to see 'em live, but they cancelled and rescheduled them in our exam time, so we had to get refunds. Luckily they cancelled those too, else I'd've been pissed!

Yeah, and it's funny how they included "Sympathy for the Devil" - the one song that Slash dismissed because they f'd up the cover version with Axl bringing in a secondary session guitarist to add fills here or there.

THe songs were obviously chosen by the strength of the single release - I don't think Mr Brownstone was a big hit in the billboard charts, so to speak.

Best Axl lyrics ever:

Ya get nothin' for nothin'
If that's what you do
Turn around bitch I got a use for you
Besides, you ain't got nothin' better to do
And I'm bored

Oh, and come on:

"Your daddy works in porno now that mommy's not around
She used to love her heroin, but now she's underground!"

Does that mean that abortion Yesterdays was a hit? I think hearing that song on the radio made me sell all my Gn'R to begin with. :p

At this point, I'm more interested in hearing Velvet Revolver's new album coming out in May I believe.

The new material he played live at the Awards was awful, and vocally his renditions of the old material just plain sucked ass. He, like Dave Mustaine, was obviously very influenced by the heroin and, unfortunately, sound better during their "inebriated" eras.

Oh...Yesterdays rocks :p
I listened to it last night for the first time in who knows how long, it wasn't as bad as I remember it. Get in the Ring still sucks shit though, but Axl always was a whiner.

Shit, man, Get In The Ring rocks! I still remember the spoken word rant word for word, every little nuance in his tone of voice an' all. When we were all 14/15 year old GnR fans me and mates mates had great fun running through that all together, to the bemusement of anyone nearby!

Locomotive, as stated before, is still my favourite, and Don't Cry ironically could very well make me cry if I were to listen to it in the wrong frame of mind

"Mick Wall of Kerrang...fuck you!". Hehehe...I met ol' Mick once at the Kerrang 10th Anniversary show at the London Astoria. What a show: Megadeth, The Almighty, and Wolfsbane if I remember right.

Speaking of which, are Wolfsbane CDs a rarity these days? I've not really hunted them down, but this was pre-Maiden Blaze stuff which was pretty good if I remember right.

There was a 2CD set released a few years ago, with the live album Massive Noise Injection and a studio album on it. Haven't seen it around for ages. I found the self-titled CD on Amazon awhile back, but this album is from right at the end of the career, details about it are fuzzy. If the other albums were actually released on CD I guess they're out of print now.

HOW FUCKING GAY!!!

Wolfsbane??

I remember their video "I Like It Hot"

The chorus was something like,

"I (he held this word for like 6 syllables) like it hot,
What kind of trouble do you wanna get in,
Light up the night with a little kiss..."

Horrible... to think Maiden picked Bayley with only that band to go by... they might as well've picked David Lee Roth to front Maiden. They probably would've gotten the same results. :tickled:

Oh, and the drummer played on a toilet for a drumstool.

I remember one song that Wolfsbane played live because it was just so loud. It was called "Manhunt" or something like that and everyone sang along. At the time, it sounded pretty heavy!
