I love wine, just not champagne. It's too dry for my palate. When it comes to whites, I prefer sweet varietals like gewutrztraminer or viogner
DOOD. WE'VE GOT TO HANG OUT SOME.

That's really all me & the gf like in wine- the rieslings, gewurtztraminers- wineries around here make a wine from the Vignoles grape, which I assume will be a varietal of the viogner you mentioned. Basically a semi-sweet, tart sort of white wine.
Brought a red spice wine over to Christmas at Mom's house that was KILLER- deep, red, sweet with cloves, cinnamon, etc- a bit like mulled wine.

damn, that's nuts. when you guys gonna tour out west?

I just bought a half case of various spanish varietals - lots of riojas etc. Pretty good for the most part, even if I don't like em all. Lots of good values to be found here since I'm so close to the Napa Valley wine country.

Well, the gf has mentioned how much she'd love a trip to the Napa Valley (after hearing other nurses gush about how amazing it was), so that's a possibility actually. If a trip is ever planned, I'll be sure to bug you.

Just an update:

I might be with you guys on the "Champagne is ick" thing. Although drinking the whole bottle (less half a glass for the gf before she fell asleep at 9:30pm) by myself is probably a bad idea to begin with, mixing it with a sweet late harvest riesling, raspberry flavored beer, honey mustard pretzels, rye bread, ranch dip, seafood, bok choy, spinach, cheese, lowfat organic egg nog, and bourbon balls (chocolate with bourbon) is probably even worse. (I think it was the egg nog & bourbon balls that pushed it over the edge)

On the good side, I did find that Bob Evans' breakfast is the best thing for a New Year's Eve morning after.

And no, I am not a pig. Even though it sounds like it.
