Nope. I've always been amazed the band was called what it was actually, considering they had the same name as a far more well known New York band... nonetheless...

I wouldn't say London became Motley Crue. London still existed at the same time Motley Crue existed and didn't put out their first album until 1985. Nikki just happened to play in London for a while, but so did Blackie Lawless, Izzy Stradlin and Fred Coury.

Malcolm Young's band prior to accadacca was Velvet Underground, no?

The New Yardbirds sort of did become Led Zeppelin....

Page was the only one left in the band so he hired all these session musicians... and he kept the name.

Then Keith Moon I think it was said that with a name like that they'd sink like a lead balloon.

And so became Led Zeppelin.

Ceydn is right about Zep. Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones did a tour as the New Yardbirds, then the name changed shortly after.
