Ok, this is about the 2003 remastered digipak-version of Darkthrone's "Ablaze In The Northern Sky".
When I first got the album, I noticed some pretty irritating sparkling noice at the first song "Kathaarian Life Code". The sparkling continues during the whole album, but it's heard best when the guitars have a break, like the intro on Kathaarian Life Code.
I went back to the store and had it exchanged, but surprisingly enough, the sparkling was on that copy too.
It just can't be that BOTH copies were fucked up, it must have something to do with this stupid remastering... Like they addded it on purpose... At least I hope so ;)

Anyway, do you guys know anything about this?

PS. I know there's no sparkling on the older editions.

I dunno. I have the original addidtion and there is no sparkling. I have the reissue of Soulside Journey, and there is no sparkling on that either.

Well, as I said, I know very well that the original doesn't have the sparkling :)
I have the reissue of Under A Funeral Moon, but there's no sparkling on that either, just that damn Ablaze...

i have the originals of under a funeral moon and a blaze in the northern sky and hate them but i also have the new digipack of transylvanian hunger but as far as i can remember there's no sparkling but i'll have to check that out

Heh, it looked like you meant you hated Ablaze and funeral moon... ;)

*hrm* anyways, I think it's official now.
Just got an answer from a mate, and he has the same noice on his copy.

So this is the shocking fact: 2003 remastered Ablaze-record has sparkling noise.
(It's not SO bad actually, but it's very much noticed in the beginning and it ruins the evil intro for Kathaarian Life Code.) Otherwise, they've actually made a pretty good job with restoring the sound.
I guess the old mastertapes were in shitty condition...

You can think of it as an open fire sparkling, it really sounds like something that way ;)

Thanks for sharing, now i know not to buy the digi pack from the end.

I was angry most because of the principle that I thought both my copies were screwed. I don't really care now when I know it's "supposed" to be sound like this. The album has a very good sound restoration otherwise.
You should go to a recordstore and listen to it, then decide.
The only thing it actually "ruins" is the intro.

And by the way... There's an interview with Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, pretty cool ;)
Exactly 13.49 minutes long, heh..
