absent friends

Yep, Mr Crimson - Why? Do you want more people to pass onto the other side or something?

Seriously, I'm sure the song can be applied to anyone close to you that passes away. But Macc is correct about the main inspiration of the song.
Another personal song is 'Iron Wheels' from the 'Forever Free' album. It is about Biff's father. I still think it should be a song played live by the band.
If you're looking for a song that is a dedication to more famous people that have passed on, 'Requiem' from the 'Solid Ball' album is a nice one. It is also on Graham Oliver's solo album 'End Of An Era' re-titled as 'Born To Rock 'n' Roll'. It's dedicated to the likes of Hendrix, Bonn Scott and Keith Moon.

whats this song about two former members or someone else intirally?
In the lyric is written: " To absent friends... " But...wenn you speak these sentence you might think or better say hear (as no-englishman) Two (2) absent friends... maybe this explains everything  Cause you write two former members...

Nice One Heavy!
Never thought of it that way before! Very perceptive of you!

Biff even sounds like he's singing 'Two Absent friends... this one's for you..'

Nice idea.
thank you Nightwar, good weekend!

Yeah - it was a song I used to skip, but it kinds of grows on you. 'Iron Wheels' had a similiar effect on me.

There is a nice story somewhere on the Net:

The director of the video for the release of 'Unleash The Beast' was a big Saxon fan. Whilst he was organising locations and such, he had an evening out with Quinny. After some request, Paul Q got his guitar out.The director - a life long fan - sang along whilst the Quinster strummed out 'Absent Friends'. The guy said it was a unique experience!
