REVIEW
ABYDOS is an album that is difficult to fault. Andy Kuntz, lead singer of VANDEN PLAS, has really put his heart and soul into making this album and it shows. He has brought in many differing styles and used a traditional progressive framework to weave them together.
The tracks which really shine through are: Silence this is an explosive track which really finds it groove during the chorus. Coppermoon has a jazz feel throughout until the chorus which then breaks out into a traditional progressive chorus. Hyperion Sunset uses distorted guitars, keyboards and even vocals to get its delivery across. Gods Driftwood is melancholic and infuses the listener with its acoustic guitar before thrashing out a Kashmir-esq guitar intro.
The album delivers its goods and is certainly well received by all who give the album a chance. If you like: DREAM THEATRE, SYMPHONY X and AYREON then this will sit nicely in your collection.
