According to BBC News, AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson is one of four new names that will be added to Tyneside, United Kingdom's "Walk Of Fame" from nominations suggested by the public. People voted for who they felt has made a significant contribution to the region over the past 60 years. The four names will join the existing 29 bronze plaques that currently make up the "NewcastleGateshead Local Heroes" collection along NewcastleGateshead's Quayside Mile. Brian, who was born in Dunston, Gateshead, joined AC/DC in 1980 as lead vocalist and his first album with the group, "Back in Black", is one of the most successful albums of all time, selling over 22 million copies in the U.S. alone. Brian has maintained his thick Geordie accent despite splitting his time between Florida, where he has had a home for the last four decades, and London. Johnson said in an open letter to fans that he intends to solve his hearing problem and continue recording and touring, although he pointedly did not say whether he would be rejoining AC/DC. The vocalist wrote: "My entire focus is to continue medical treatment to improve my hearing. I am hoping that in time my hearing will improve and allow me to return to live concert performances. While the outcome is uncertain, my attitude is optimistic."
