personally i think the mixed clip has too much high freq. IMO
but the dude im recording likes it.

I like them. My ears would like to hear some more low-mids, just a bit more actual body for the acoustic and the highs in the mix rolled off just a little, other than that,

Sounds good, but I'm not liking that chorus going on. Was it recorded with one or two mics?

I think all you really needed to do was use a compressor with a lot of gain reduction and a low ratio, a slight high-pass and MAYBE... MAYBEEEEE a reverb mixed in really really subtly.
The mixed one sounds like you went to town on an EQ because you felt like you had to. News flash: you don't have to.
