Yo.

I'm heading down to Ye Olde Adelaide Towne at the end of August and was hoping to spend a few days seeing the sights in and around SA's capital city. I was thinking maybe spend 1 or 2 nights in the city and the rest of the time around a winery sort of area, or somewhere else that's nice that's easily accessible from the city. Any suggestions of some must-see/must-do things?

must-see/must-do things hey ... your in the wrong city
i kid. Glenelg beach is a nice place to visit, along jetty rd there are some good eateries and shopping and you can just grab the tram from town and its only like 20 min away.
In and around the city, the botanic gardens are nice and you might as well have a stroll around the city, its only 1sq mile so it dont really take to long

do you know what wine regions you are visiting yet?

No idea about the wineries...was wondering if anyone could suggest one, or even if it's a worthwhile thing to do.

I dont know a heap, but the Barossa Valley is renouned for its fine wine, its about 70k North of the city, if you go further out that way there is the clare valley region. South there are also a number of places much as tatachilla (i cant spell it)

GO TO HAHNDORF!

Beers! Germans! Beers!

About an hour bus from the city. Great great place to spend an afternoon.

You generally don't go to *a* winery, you go to a region and just winery-hop. It's a good way to spend a couple of days, assuming you like wine. I went to the Barossa Valley a couple of years ago. It's also best if you get some else to drive :)

You could also do worse than spend a day in Hahndorf (no more than a day, though). It's kind of an art/crafty/antique/gallery kinda mountain town.

The German beer option sounds interesting :)

There's a good selection though, right? We're not just talking Becks + Dortmunder + some other standard ones.

Nah, they've got proper imported beer on tap

*edit this forum really needs a  emoticon.

*edit I'm not evening editing this, this is the original post, I just wanted to put *edit in.

Yeah, it was originally inhabited by German migrants, and they've kept up the tradition. There's a really good German pub/restraunt up one side of the town, I'd recommend that, if I could remember what it's called or what it's near. Run by a German dude and all.

German Arms I believe is the name of the Hahndorf pub.
A good chef, using quality produce, well last i heard...

If you're still in town on the 29th and like a bit of hanky spanky, come down to Enigma, Necromacy is running the annual fetish show.

Clare Valley is alot of fun, be sure to check out Martindale Hall, it rocks!

speaking of rock, Martindale Hall is where they filmed the boarding house scenes of Picnic on Hanging Rock;)

Ok, so I was thinking apart from Adelaide itself and Adelaide Hills/Hahndorf, I might check out a few more places. What would you guys suggest out of these options?

Clare Valley
Eyre Peninsula
Fleurieu Peninsula
Flinders Ranges and Outback
Kangaroo Island
Limestone Coast
Murraylands
Riverland
Yorke Peninsula

Kangaroo Island is a cool place imo, been there twice and loved it, thier osnt a whole lot to do there though.
Clare valley is nice and you might as well stop off at barossa valley as it is sorta on the way i think

For most the others, including KI you really need a bit of time as they are a fair way out of town, it is worth checking our parts of the Flinders ranges and outback at some stage, but that region is so friggin huge you need a while to see it

Mrs Winmar and I went through the Flinders Ranges and for a bit of a walk at Wilpena Pound. It was about 40 degrees though, so unfortunately we had to leave proper walking for another time. :(
