Report: AEROSMITH Cancel Brit Awards Duet With THE DARKNESS - Jan. 23, 2004

TeenMusic.com is reporting that AEROSMITH pulled out of a planned duet with rising U.K. stars THE DARKNESS at this year's Brit Awards after fearing they would be upstaged.

According to sources cited by TeenMusic.com, the organizers of February's ceremony were gleeful when they persuaded Steven Tyler and Joe Perry to team up with the Justin Hawkins-fronted band for a cover of their hit "Love in An Elevator".

But after some careful consideration, AEROSMITH called time on the deal.

A source told British tabloid The Daily Star, "It was all set in stone and was going to be the collaboration of the night.

"But on Friday, AEROSMITH pulled out with a load of flimsy excuses. The impression they gave was of a band who didn't want to be upstaged."

THE DARKNESS are leading the nominees at the awards, where they are up for four gongs.

hmmmm-i guess one thing you can say about the darkness, they do put on a good show.i must admit though that i wouldnt have thought seasoned pros like tyler and perry would worry too much
How's this they passed on performing with a band that has some credibility. They didn't pass on the Superbowl a couple of years back & they were peforming with Britney Spears & that "boy group?!" This just shows where "these seasoned musicians" are at this point in their career. Pure bubble gum. I don't know that it's so much "lips & perry," as their managment. Or possibly the label. Can't wait for that blues record... Not!
That'll be as "bluesy" as I am "white." Not very....:p

maybe it was themanagement worried about them not looking good,or maybe the band themselves.you're right that they should have taken the chance to play with a band with some cred-i didnt know they played a concert with britney.that does suck.i mean,i'd like to bang britney, but i'd rather bang christina aguilera than be playing on a bill with britney.the whole thing is pretty odd.

That superbowl thing was the nail in the coffin. They've been releasing the same album over and over for the last 15 years, but after seeing that superbowl clip I lost all respect for them. I can not think of another band that is any where near as predictable as Aerosmith. They found a formula and have refused to try anything different for 15 years.

Well the odd part here & that they'll be back to do the Superbowl 1/2 time show...
I can't wait to see how low they'll stoop this time around...
That was the nail in the coffin. When I think of "Blues" I think of Johnny Winter, Robert Johnson, SRV & Buddy Guy. I can't say I ever thought "Aerosupply?!"
What's the title of the new record? Blues for Bubbles? Something stupid like that...

I disagree. It hasn't been 15 years, but 13. "Just Push Play" was clearly the worst of the bunch & they did change the formula a bit. That disc was like a freshly pinched turd pile by my neighbor's dog. I think this new record is their way of convincing the public that they are "relivant & hip" again. Bullshit!
