Hi guys.
I'm looking to buy a backup guitar for my C-7 Hellraiser for live use. It doesn't have to be a fancy guitar, but I would like it to be solidly built.
So I was wondering if anybody here's got any experience with "cheaper" 7-strings?

Ibanez 7321's are supposed to be built pretty well, and they've recently released a new one with a cool finish on it as opposed to the standard gloss black of all the normal ones.

I'm sure if you checked ebay you'd be able to find some cheap used Ibanez however, like some discontinued RG7420 or RG7620...they're supposed to be really good.

This is kind of a weird question because I consider Schecter's most expensive guitars to be the best 'affordable' 7 strings on the market! :D I own 2 myself.

Thanks for the reply. I might check those Ibanez out if I ever come across one, but I must say I've never been a fan of Ibanez guitars. Thin necks and thins sound.

Those Agile guitars looks really sexy! Too bad there's no stores that carries them where I live. But they're cheap enough that I might buy one without trying it first.

~$600 for a Neck-thru, EMG-loaded axe with a trem and a decent finish, I think it's great...just wanted to make sure people weren't going "o0o000 Fuk! Tree Hunnids for a 7Strngs! o0o0oo0oo0o!" or some lame shit.

There's no stores that carry them, period. Web-order only, afaik.

If you can get the dude who runs the site to give you the time of day, and can throw down the money ahead of time, he's able to get them pretty much custom to your liking. Wish I had the money handy to do that, I'd be all over it.

I've heard the agiles are really good. I know a guy in Canada who owned an LTD carpenter sig and thought it was amazing, then bought an agile and thinks the carpenter is 'too hard to play' now.

I know people are going to have different tastes and stuff but honestly they're so cheap, and if all you need is a 'backup' guitar then you can't go wrong.

The other guitarist of my new band got a Schecter Demon two weeks ago and we are all very happy with it.
Big plus is that it's got the mahogany body (instead of basswood like on the Damien and Omen 7).
It has a bolt-on neck and the Duncan Designed version of the Blackouts.

So if you like your Hellraiser, you get a less fancy version of it for less money. No problems adjusting when you switch guitars.

I'm an Ibanez dude, and I'd say, unless you can score a used RG 7321 for a good deal that has been modded, avoid them, because they are absolute crap compared to the MIJ models. The stock pickups are terrible.
Honestly, if you're comfortable with a Hellraiser, you probably wont like an Ibanez, because the neck size and profile difference is quite pronounced, best to score either an Agile or another Hellraiser.

Most people swap the pickups out of Ibanez axes anyways...thats kinda the charm of them. I'm sure they are generally decent considering how many people use the 7321's...that was pretty much all Broderick used for a long time. Basing on whether a guitar is to be avoided or not based on thier pickups is kinda silly, since most people tend to leave em or swap em...it's like saying don't buy a specific car because you don't like the tires.

I usually add the cost of new pickups to a guitar when I'm looking at one, unless it comes with what I want already. Stock pups being junk should not be a reason to dismiss it as an option, you are really missing out on what could possibly be the perfect axe for you if you do that.
