The Demonstration Archive is now available

We have been quiet…but very busy…

Firstly, we announce the release of "The Demonstration Archive." This is a full-length retrospective CD collection chronicling our unsigned years (1996 – 1998). This release includes both the "From Which Of This Oak," and "Promo '98" demos. We are also including our never released 7-inch that was originally entitled "Of Stone, Wind, and Pillor" (later released via The End Records with bonus tracks). From the primal opening riffs of "The Wilderness" to the epic closing of "The Melancholy Spirit," the "Demonstration Archive" tracks the gradual evolution and refinement of the Agalloch sound and style finally heard on the landmark debut album "Pale Folklore." The track listing appears in chronological order below:

"From Which of this Oak" (1997)
1.The Wilderness
2.As Embers Dress The Sky
3.This Old Cabin
"Of Stone, Wind, and Pillor" unreleased 7-inch (1998)
4.Of Stone, Wind, and Pillor
5.Foliorum Viridium
6.Haunting Birds
"Promo '98" (1998)
7.Hallways Of Enchanted Ebony*
8.The Melancholy Spirit*

*different recording sessions from those appearing on "Pale Folklore"

All the material was taken from the original analog sources. Aside from some slight mastering to keep the songs at an even volume, nothing was edited or polished. This collection includes a 12-page booklet with notes, era-related artwork, and never-before seen photos from a January 1998 session.

Check out an edited version of "The Wilderness" from our debut demo "From Which of This Oak" on our MySpace player.

The CD is available via our friends at the Licht von Dämmerung Arthouse.
$12 (US) / $15 (world) to: lvd.arts@gmail.com
Paypal only!
It is also available from Profound Lore Records (www.profoundlorerecords.com) and from Anthem Records in downtown Portland.

Note: this CD is NOT a limited release. It will remain in print according to demand. We will regularly put a few on eBay as "buy it now" auctions to discourage eBay capitalists.

In other news, we have been working on the DVD footage and audio from our Vosselaar gig this past March '08. The audio mixes are nearly complete and the video editing will commence shortly.

We are also working on our 4th full-length album. As for which label will release this album, we have received several offers ranging from the ridiculous to the very interesting. We are currently in discussion with a couple select labels. However, it is likely that no decision will be made until 2009.

There will be more news in the coming months…

Cant fucking wait untill the next album...

I was listening to Aethenor earlier today and it played into Ashes against the grain which I hadn't listened to in ages and ended up enjoying it more than I expected. I don't play Ashes as much as the others. Looking forward to the new full length, The White EP is still one of my top release of 08 thus far. I'll have to look into the dvd as well it seems.

Just orderd it.

I wish they included all of their ep style stuff like the tommorow will never come ep.

Lol Ashes is my favourite, maybe beacuse I got into them with it

^I got into them with Pale, but Mantle is my favorite. Ashes is definitely more of a grower than the other two iyam. But I still would say it's their weakest IMO, but their weakest is pretty good.

Fuck yeah! Thankfully I didn't drop serious cash for them on eBay. Too bad they aren't including Kneel to the Cross or A Poem by Yeats. I guess they don't have the rights to those.

I am in the minority but I think Ashes is their best. Mantle is also great. Pale doesn't do as much for me. I still like it but, to me, it isn't in the same class as the other two albums. The improvement in musicianship between Pale and Mantle is immense and has a lot to do with it. IMO, Mantle and Ashes are 2 of the best metal albums in recent memory (and probably better than anything dear old Opeth has put out). I'm not trying to start a flame war but that is how I see it.

Ashes is my fav atm but all albums are fucking amazing.

^^^ I agree & this is great news. I will order the new...old stuff now.

Freakin' sweeeet! I just read this, and as soon as I finish with this post, it's gonna be order-placing time! I cannot wait for the DVD & new record!

I also prefer The Mantle, an absolutely brilliant record from start to finish! I love Ashes in places, other parts kinda drag just a little for me. I actually prefer the songs on Pale Folklore overall though, even if the production and performances aren't nearly as polished. (Just got PF this weekend, and it's all I've listened to since!) Don't get me wrong, Ashes is great, it's just my least favorite Agalloch record. (Which means it still blows away 99% of the other shit out there!)

Incredible band, hopefully they'll soon start to see some of the recognition they deserve! They've got my money & support, anyway! :headbang:

I already have all of these songs but I still ordered it for collection purposes. As for their best album, The Mantle hands down.
