Okay, a child's guess goes:
It seems to me that the person, lets call him Bob, seems to be a devoted atheist, meaning he denied God's existence and love for most of his life. And Bob seems to be trapped in the "Hallway of Truth", meaning he was exposed to the Truth in a way. So he found God, he found peace, love and happiness, yet as Bob was such a strong believer in disbelief, he refused it at first, hence the scratch marks on the door, he tried to deny it once again, but he couldn't, God spoke to him, and finally when the door was opened and once Bob had a chance to "escape" if you may, he felt no need to, he went towards the light, which is still a little too strong for his eyes, and thats why we see Bob covering his face with his arm. Oh and yeah, "The Hallway" is some sort of metaphor for life, I may presume thanks to the thorns around the door, sorta "Per aspera ad astra" -esque, representing life as the lovely b*tch it is.
If this seems kinda naive or foolish, I apologize , but I can't help it!
