Alice Cooper says that AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry asked Johnny Depp for guitar lessons after hearing the actor play in movie. Cooper, Perry and Depp are members of the HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES supergroup, dedicated to the memory of Cooper's late drinking buddies Jimi Hendrix, Keith Moon and John Lennon. Cooper tells EonMusic: "Johnny is one of these guys that just loves that era, and he's a killer guitar player. 'There's a movie called 'Chocolat' and he plays this gypsy guitar player. He does all this Django Reinhardt stuff — and it's really him. It's not somebody playing for him. Joe Perry heard that, and he called up and said, 'Can I get guitar lessons from you?' So that's how good Johnny is." The HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES released their self-titled debut album last year and will hit the road in Europe and North America this summer. The U.S. tour runs through July 25 in Paso Robles, California. Rounding out the lineup are Matt Sorum from GUNS N' ROSES and VELVET REVOLVER on drums, Robert DeLeo from STONE TEMPLE PILOTS on bass, Tommy Henriksen from Cooper's band on guitar, and Bruce Witkin on piano, percussion and guitar. After the HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES tour, Cooper has U.S. dates with his band in August and October.
