ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell spoke to the 105.7 The Point radio station about the band's latest album, 2018's "Rainier Fog". The band's first new studio effort in five years was nominated for a Grammy for best rock album — ALICE IN CHAINS' first Grammy nomination since 2010. "I just think it's really good work," Cantrell said (see video below). "We're still working at our peak — we haven't fallen off. I think people are responding to it really well. It's always nice. "When we put something out, we've obviously put our stamp of approval on it, and it's something that we love," he continued. "We're trying to make music that doesn't exist. Like, if we weren't in this band, that's the record I would wanna hear; that's what I always think. I try to make the record or write the music or be part of a band that I would wanna be in if I wasn't already in it. [Laughs] So it's kind of cool. I get to be in the band that I wanna be in, and make the music that I wanna make." "Rainier Fog" marked a few firsts for ALICE IN CHAINS: it was their first album for BMG and their first time recording in their hometown of Seattle in more than 20 years (worth noting that the album title is a tribute to Seattle). The "Rainier Fog" recording process also saw the band spend time at Henson Recording Studios in Los Angeles and at the Nashville studio of producer Nick Raskulinecz. "Rainier Fog" was the third straight ALICE IN CHAINS album recorded with Raskulinecz and engineer Paul Figueroa. The album was mixed by Joe Barresi (QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, TOOL). ALICE IN CHAINS recently wrapped a cross-country North American tour with KORN. The band also released "Black Antenna", a dark sci-fi thriller set against the backdrop of "Rainier Fog".
