Facebook has caught serious flak for its data privacy issues, with investigations having revealed the popular social media platform shares access to other users' data with other technology firms like Amazon, Apple and Microsoft. While company founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has denied such practices, Facebook has been hit with heavy fines and remains under congressional investigation. One person you will not find on Facebook is ALL THAT REMAINS frontman Phil Labonte, who, in a recent interview with Poley Bones of Rock Rage Radio, shared his feelings on social media as well as its privacy protections and the illusion thereof. "I got rid of Facebook a long time ago," he said (see video below). "I'm not a fan. I don't use Facebook. I don't use WhatsApp. I do use Instagram, but that, I'm very limited on what I'll actually put into Instagram. I don't do location services or anything like that. I mean, I'm just not a fan of Mark Zuckerberg's garbage. People don't realize that you're the product. It seems like you're getting something for free, but you're really not. He creates profiles; and I say 'he,' but Facebook, the entity, creates profiles on people whether you like it or not. Have you heard of a ghost profile? Whether or not you have a Facebook page, whether or not you've ever had a Facebook page, there is probably a Facebook page for you that is created by the information that he got from other people. So, if someone goes in and someone puts their contacts into their Facebook page, like when you put it in your phone, 'Would you like to sync your contacts?' They take all of your contact information. If then there's a name in there and a phone number and it matches someone else who has that name and phone number, even though that name doesn't have a Facebook page attached to it, because there are two different people who have the same name and phone number in their contacts, they correlate it and they say 'That's a real person.' The more people who have a name and phone number, regardless if you've ever put your information into Facebook, the more people they have with that name and phone number, the more they can go ahead and build on that profile. Location services, take a picture and they tag someone, even if you don't have a Facebook page, if that name gets tagged onto you, sometimes people will do that if they don't have a Facebook page, they're still making a profile on you. Facebook is evil. Get rid of it. Delete Facebook." He continued: "If you're considering how many people are unaware, yes [it's scary]. If everybody knew and was educated on the way these social network platforms work, if everyone knew how Google worked, then it might not be such a big deal, but because most people just use them and don't think about the fact that these things are being stored and this information, it never goes away. It used to be where people would say, 'Never put a picture on the Internet because it never goes away,' which is true. But it goes much further than that. Never search for anything because the search never goes away. Never do anything on the Internet that you aren't comfortable with it staying forever because there's no reason for Google to get rid of any that information. It's tiny little bits of information and they can go and store it for as long as they want, indefinitely." ALL THAT REMAINS is currently touring North America as part of the "Disease Of The Anima" tour with co-headliner LACUNA COIL, with BAD OMENS, TOOTHGRINDER (September 15 - October 10), EXIMIOUS (October 11 - October 19) and UNCURED in support.
