really? everything i have read and heard leads me to believe it's not going to happen.

I doubt it.

ummm well it's in Bush's best interest to promise strongly that he will never bring it back. because a draft (unlike taxes) is one of those things that can come back after something huge and horrible (another September 11th) and everyone will be grateful and not hold your previous promise against you. There is NO reason to publicly say you're considering bringing back the draft.
