necromantia is old greek black metal. you really should check out the "scarlet evil witching black" album! they use two bass guitars! no rhythm guitar on the whole album!

I've heard of Varathron too, but I keep forgetting to check them out. I have the first Rotting Christ demo (new digi reissue w/ bonus tracks) in my cart at TER as well.
And why don't you include Legion of Doom? I really like them, and they've at least been around since 93 or so, though I realize that places them "2nd wave" or whatever.

never heard legion of doom. another greek band that's awesome is NIGHTFALL (early) but they don't really qualify as black metal. they do have a number of similarities with the aforementioned bands though:

i must say, Necrophobic's "The Nocturnal Silence" is quite nice. Reminds me of my fave Edge of Sanity album, "Orthodox", but with more maturity and crunch and a bit more malevolence.
