I'm sure the Coop is going to kick ass.

Interesting, I never pre-order directly since I buy through distros but nevertheless is a tempting offer. Long live Alice!

I think it's a very good deal and it's legitimate.
Newbury have an outstanding reputation. They have a second booklet signed so you can tuck that away for safe keeping and use the booklet that comes with the disc in the jewel.

I'm a fan but not such that type. I will buy the album in a haul at Amazon most probably as soon as available, I have to minimize my S&H costs (it's hard living outside USA).

I donwloaded yesterday the album and it's a mixed feeling. On one hand the album is absolutely retro, sounds like something recorded between "Muscle of Love" and " Welcome To My Nightmare" (of course with a modern clean production). The songs are pure Coop and catchy but on the other hand it didn't hit me as hard as the previous two releases. I would have to spin it more, it may grow better or me but the first impression is good. Maybe the feeling will unify after awhile.

Alice Cooper - 'The One That Got Away'

P.S. I ended listening no less than five times the album at the job. I really do like it now, it's not a masterpiece but it's pure Alice Cooper and IMO it can fit perfectly in between any of his 70's albums. I will go for it straight on July 29.

I have been spinning the new album...it's average at best. I like the concept but he simply didn't pull this off. It's too "happy" of an album to be about a serial killer. Raise Your Fist and Yell was a much darker album....
There's a handful of good songs...

I disagree totally this time. The album is not dark musically but to say that RYFAY was darker, gimme a break. This new one is very Alice and very 70's, I'm waiting for my copy to arrive. It's not his best effort I concede that and not the best album form his retro period (that still is "Dirty Diamonds"), but anything beats the Kane Roberts era (well maybe except "Dada" or "Zipper Catches Skin" or "Flush The Fashion").

I'm obviously more critical of Alice Cooper. It's got a handful of tracks that capture the glory days of the 70's but as a whole I think "most" rock fans will find this album to be average. That said it's a step up from Dirty Diamonds... I think Brutal Planet and Dragontown were heavier and a little darker, though I think people were longing for the 70's Cooper to resurface...I'd rather not get into a pissing match over who is right or wrong on this because in the end it's a matter of opinion...

I think is a step down (a little one). :D

Oh that's for granted, there my friend you're absolutely right. But as you said is always in the ear of the listener :kickass:

I never was a big fan of Alice Cooper...What I heard of the new album didn't impress me. I really prefer the Dio song which has the same name as the new Alice album...

Alice sounds great on the Toy Master track off the new Avantasia though...

Where's the link?, I want to read about your disappointment...and disagree with it :p

I already pre-ordered the album in Amazon (it was only $9.99 before S&H) with some books.

Alice Cooper made his triumphant return in 1989 when he released Trash. That album became a world wide smash. It was commercial, melodic and contemporary.

And you find that cool and good? o_O

and Dirty Diamonds was mediocre at best and ruined the momentum established by The Eyes Of Alice Cooper.

I disagree absolutely, except for the bonus track (which is skipabble and being a bonus therefore not accountable for) the album is great as fine as its predecessor but better than the new one.

For starters I was hoping that the album would be much darker than it is. Not heavier, we’ve heard that on Brutal Planet, darker. Surprisingly Along Came A Spider is an upbeat, fun record.

Why it should be darker? I believe darkness in Coop's albums came by bits, you can find darkness in 'The Balad Of Dwigt Fry' , 'Dead Babies', 'I Love The Dead', 'Gail', 'Cleansed By Fire', 'Wicked Young Man', 'This House Is Haunted' as examples, also you can find his humor even in subjects like his previous concept album "Goes To Hell", there's humor in 'Elected', 'No More Mr Nice Guy', I'm Your Gun, It's The Little Things, The Song That Didn't Rhyme, 'The Saga Of Jeese Jane'

So basically Alice to me is not about being dark or being heavy is about mixing madness with humor, darkness with fun, always clever lyrics, social denounce, etc.

I guess you raised your bar too high. I'm a Coop fan but I don't own everyhting he has done or accept every album is a jewel, I just like what he has been done since "The Last Temptation" a lot.

I didn't like Trash it was horrible...
Hey Stoopid was the better of the two. but not by much...
I guess I'm not a Cooper nutswinger, I've become more of a casual fan I suppose and am not impressed with much since The Last Temptation, though I did like The Eyes Of Alice Cooper....Thanks for reading the review.

a) agree
b) agree
c) I'm more than a casual fan but less of a blind fan. Besides the classics (not including his 60's albums) actually I do like more the material from TLT up to now than the stuff during the 80's and early 90's. I like the retro vibe of the last three, not that I hated "Brutal Planet" and "Dragontown", but where too modern, still he managed not to fall in the mallcore wagon. I think he was experimenting and suddenly got a nostalgia attack :D
d) anytime, I seldom read reviews because like you (only you did this professionally) it's my own opinion the one that counts in the end. On a different aspect your reviews are very intelligent and well crafted, I hope that your readers at least can get something out of it, independently if they agrre or not.

BTW 3/5 is not bad rating for the album, do you use half points on only whole numbers?
