Now why couldn't the album cover art be more in this vein?

I have no problem with a car coming out of his mouth. After all, this is the band that had a picture of Eddie in a bar with a bunch of aliens on the cover of a single about a guy stranded in the Antarctic (or wherever it was).

I like the new Dungeon cover !

Me too  The Eddie style metal monster in a dungeon looks way cooler than the Aussie cover I reckon! I don't like 3D computer art much. Gimme a cool painted cover anyday, especially if it has a cool metal mascot on it!

I like the computer generated one actually! But the LMP one looks awesome as well, it would stand out on a store shelf and I just think its a great piece of art, whether he bonks Manowars mascot or not :)

Further, an album's cover art can have an almost subliminal effect on the listener, even before they've listened to the music within. I've read reviews (and maybe done a few myself) where the critic has obviously let an album's artwork influence his/her opinion on the music, so they'll make a judgement on it without even really listening to it. I just worry this will happen with Dungeon with that bodgy Eddie-style cover art. People will just assume they're ripping off Maiden and that's it, and anyone who's heard the album will know that there is clearly a lot more than that going on. They could have done much better with a cover for their international debut than a cartoon. I'm not even a big fan of the cover of the forthcoming Black Majesty album, and that's a much better looking design.
