Am I the only person sick of Evanesence?

im not sick of the band, just that song. and that dorky guy from 12 stones is only on that one song i believe.

This goober at work gave me a burn of their disc. He's been praising them for months... then I finally listened.
It immediately pissed me off... because it sounded like they're really influenced by Lacuna Coil and the Gathering. I think it angered me cause they're receiving tons more press (than LC & G) and they've almost close to Platinum!
It's a decent record... but the production is very "Cut N' Paste". Your right about her voice... she does have skills. But she has that same emotional/anguished/bummed out vibe throughout the whole record. Next time she should mix it up. I hear they're good live.
I heard an interesting thing about them: It appears they started out with a huge Christian following and when the record broke on the mainstream... they issued out a press statement asking Christian Radio not to play their record anymore - because they aren't a Christian band?! That's kind of odd... why would you ask anybody to stop playing your record? A fan is a fan...
Is it a "coinky-dink" that they're on Creed's Label?

They did an interview with Entertainment Weekly where one member said WTF are we doing on the Christian charts, he swore, etc. So Christian stations dumped him faster than country stations dumped the Dipsy Chicks. And yeah, they started out in that vein, just look at their song titles. Wind-Up is flush with cash from Creed selling so many records, which is how they were able to buy these guys so much attention and the Daredevil soundtrack.
It's so frustrating that a band like Lacuna Coil can't get so much as a mention in Blender but they give the cover and big spreads to any girl who agrees to pose half naked for that rag or Maxim. I hope Cristina doesn't resort to that.
And to tie this into Iron Maiden, I'm really ticked that Maiden, the last arena-filling capable metal band left (I'm not betting on Metallica any more), are taking fellow old timers Dio and Motorhead with them. Maiden should be taking LC, Hammerfall, Opeth, In Flames or Primal Fear as an opening act to help break the next generation of metal.
Here comes the flames....
Nah, Id rather see Dio with Maiden purrsonally, but I can see your point as far as recruiting purrposes

NOW THAT MAKES SENSE...I met a Christian band promoter who was TOTALLY into Evanescence...I'll bet they did the same thing AMY GRANT the singer did....start out on the "Christian Circuit" to get exposure fast and then once you get national attention, you go secular, or non christian. I saw Amy Grant sing at the Crystal Cathedral church before the Cathedral was actually built...when it was small and she was a meek, mild 19-year-old singing her hubby's songs..her vocal style is good, if a tad bland....she played the system and it worked...now she's a household name...Not that there is anything wrong w/ that...SciKikMobster said:

P.O.D. kind of disavowed their X-ian roots once they started getting mass radio play. I remember seeing them open for Primus at the Sun Theater (now the Grove, unless they've changed the name AGAIN). Their backdrop was a big thing of Jesus with dreadlocks. This was the album before the more recent one that had "Alive," so it had to be back in 1999. Fortunately, they weren't preaching from the stage. I still thought they sucked and now that they're popular, I like them even less. 
Actually, POD are swinging hard to the right. The guitarist who left was the least dedicated to religion and the new guy is apparently as hardcore as Sonny and the others. I would expect POD are gonna be even more open about their faith with the next record.
But that all doesn't change the fact that Evanesence is a weak Lacuna Coil clone and that Daredevil song is ridiculously overplayed on MTV2 and Music Choice.

One of the problems of having pioneering acts such as Lacuna Coil and then "settlers" such as Evanesence is that the settlers get the land while the pioneers get the arrows from the natives unless they've fought really hard to keep it. Of course, the children of the settlers usually remain uneducated to the battles that were fought to gain that territory.
If Evanesence are on the Ultimate Pearl Jam Tribute's label, then they'll have the financial backing from the record company to get their material heard. Lacuna Coil is signed to Century Media who, while having some of the best bands in Metal, doesn't have the finances to get their material played in massive rotation on stations like FUCKROQ or on the covers of Rolling Stone, Spin and other fish wrappers that the masses of asses enjoy to really be able to promote these bands.
There is some hope here and there when some of the established veterans take some of the new bands out on the road (i.e. the Blackest of the Black Tour).
