I have terrible ground loop issue with My Ampeg SV2-4 PRO head when using the line out and I am not sure what approach to take to fix it. Has anyone else experienced this and what have you done to remedy it? Researching on google it looks like I'm not the only one. There has been some suggestions but I dont know how reliable or safe they were.

I'd take it in to have it checked out. I had a variety of issues with my SVT-4s before I moved on (I actually went through 3 or 4 of them, thank God for friends of mine letting me continue to exchange them) but I never had any grounding problems.

I would at least start by disconnecting ALL other gear and plugging it straight into the wall power outlet. Turn it on (without anything connected to the input) and see if it makes the noise. If it does, get it checked out. If not, keep added gear (plug in a guitar, plug in any pedals/power conditioners/etc.) one at a time, and see if a particular piece of equipment causes or exacerbates the noise.

In a pinch, you could always use a 3-to-2 prong adapter on the power plug - this has almost always solved any grounding problems I've run into, though there are safety concerns involved and it's not a preferred option. I've personally never run into any problems doing this, but I don't feel completely comfortable recommending it.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response, I'm going to try what you mentioned and see what happens. I don't think I have ever tried it with absolutely nothing connected to the input. I have came accross other suggestions for using the 3-to-2 prong adapter you mention but dont really feel comfortable with that.
