An awesome song...

Haha this is crazy! I never thought someone would create a thread to say my song (old song too!) is good. Holy crap Marcus, this came as a big surprise :)

Man I remember that summer... 1,5 years ago. The guitars were tracked with a cheap ass Strat-clone guitar with stock pickups which probably cost as much as a hamburger at McDonalds. I didn't know how to edit drums back then so they're unedited haha, those were some good times! I did know how to sample blend/replace though so it kinda helps the drums a lot. Thanks to this forum for everything, because that project wouldn't even have begun if it wasn't for this forum and I wouldn't be working on my "real" album now either if it wasn't for you guys! :)

Thanks for the kind words guys. I hopefully won't let you down with my upcoming stuff... although they're no longer instrumental and they're no longer as experimental as that project Marcus just linked :) This new stuff is more of a "serious" attempt at trying to do something competitive in the metal market.

Goes to show you how much having a good musician with a good song can overcome and in many cases and be more important than editing the hell out of a performance by need or desire. It really is a great song.

Fuck dude, I think the production is more than adequate to let me enjoy the music, which at the end of the day is all that matters IMO! Nice production is all well and good, but I can hear everything clearly and nothing is fatiguing, so it passes as far as I'm concerned :headbang:

And I must admit, I do especially love the lack of djent in comparison with your recent stuff :p

Thank you so much everyone, it's awesome to hear these kinds of things while working on my project and everything else... it really gives me a boost in energy, I can literally feel it. Feels like I've had an awesome meal and just ready to take on new things you know. Thanks <3

Oh and Marcus... JUST because you said you loved the lack of djent made me do something I wasn't planning on doing. Yes... oh yes, I will post 2 clips from 2 different songs/scratch tracks just to (hopefully) disprove you Marcus =D Haha, okay maybe not really "disprove" but I just want to show you that it is possible to write good songs "even" with djent, but the key is to not limit yourself to whatever it is you're "mainly" playing. What you are about to hear is "djent" in its foundation but it has evolved to something so much more than that - unavoidably because I draw inspiration from just about anyone or anything.

We all have different tastes but do you much rather prefer my Summer 08 project over this new style? =) This new shit will have vocals too... yum!

Is that you playing everything on those two clips dude? If it is, damn are you a talented dude! Its awesome! What did you use for the guitar sound? and were the drum sounds your own? they sound awesome as well.

By a forum member who probably is a bit embarrassed by it, but I still love it :headbang:

I knew the moment I saw this that it would be Erkan, now he's revealed himself I just have to say dude is far too humble. This is amazing. :kickass:

Hey, yeah that's me playing, thanks for liking it! The drums are programmed and it's just Addictive Drums which I have barely tweaked... it's just for scratch track purposes. I will re-record EVERYTHING now that I have made all the scratch tracks for all songs. The scratch tracks help me when I play and record my drums for these songs, and they also help me get a clear picture of what's going on. All synths and stuff will be kept for the final product though, but they will probably be tweaked and so on.

Haha, you really knew that? How? :) Thank you sir!

It just seemed fitting with your character, I knew you made some good stuff before but you never big yourself up or anything, you've always been super modest about what you do. :)

Thanks man =) I guess I'm just being realistic is all. For example, I know I'm not a great guitarist so why would I say I am? I see no point =) People also comment on my drumming from time to time but I always think of the drummers who are above me and that I have a looooooooooooooooooooong way to get there so I usually don't get cocky about it. I hate cocky musicians... phew, can't stand 'em =) Not much different than rich brats who talk about their brand new boat on their first date (yeah, I suddenly thought of that SNL "I'm on a boat" video :))

Gaaawd.... Marcus, I still can't believe you made this thread haha. Seriously, I feel like a little girl who just got her first pony! Thanks again for this thread man, it really gave me a much needed boost in motivation to keep on working with all this stuff :)

Hahaha, my pleasure dude, you deserve it! And I like those two clips, they've got some great stuff going in them (especially the lead line in "Ice Cream", don't sell your guitarist skills short dude!), and I agree, it's definitely more melodic than most djent, and has some really cool soaring elements in the note and chord choice, which I always love. I guess I just find myself slighty preferring "Beyond" because it grooves so much more, none of the sorta spastic feeling drum beat stuff (mainly I just rarely like that sorta tied-triplet kick rhythm, the same rhythm as in the intro/outro to Dimmu's "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse", though I do love it there :D) but I can definitely get into this new style of yours too!

EDIT: And I must admit, I have a very bad habit of posting my thoughts on something before I'm finished listening to it, so to continue, the riff in the middle of the second one (after the clean part) is absolutely incredible; again, I'd make it more rockin' and groovy (mainly by taming the quantity of kick hits), but pay me no mind, it's your jam dude :headbang:
