Thanks for the warm welcome!
Hmm...anything to share...I'm a near-40 male, married, 2 kids. I've always liked the heavier guitar-based rock (I had Kiss posters on the wall in 4th grade). I loved the hair metal (though we didn't call it that at the time!) & couldn't believe my ears the first time a friend loaned me his copies of Ride the Lightning & Master of Puppets. I started listening to thrash as well as the more mainstream stuff, became a huge Anthrax fan.
I really liked the early 90's funk/metal thing, but it died pretty quickly. I never liked grunge. AIC, yes. Grunge, no. 90's bands for me were Primus, Prong, Pantera, King's X, stuff like that.
The 00's rolled around, & bands started rocking again. Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, Trivium, Soilwork...perfect to my ears. Well, except for the Cookie Monster vocals; I like real singing. LoG is about the only all-Cookie-all-the-time band that I enjoy.
I got my 1st electric guitar in 9th grade. Bought my 2nd one when I was about 19, still have it. Never been in a band, never played in public, always a bedroom musician. Never took any lessons, only focused on what I enjoyed (metal rhythym). I always had a couple other hobbies going at the same time (cars & animation, mainly), so I never was a "practice six hours a day" guy. It shows in my playing.
A few years ago, I started indulging my music passions a little more, & have purchased a bass & two more guitars since. I just recently bought a Line6 RiffTracker, because I've always wanted to record my playing, & now I'm out wandering the internet, pawning my crappy homemade riffs onto anyone foolish enough to listen.
The only guitar-specific forum I've been participating on so far is over at the Seymour Duncan website; I kept seeing references to the "Sneap forum", googled it, & here I am.
