Ronnie James Dio. Yay. Never did like Halford much, so I'm glad it's not him.

So, the new album will have one thing going for it, at least.

History is about ready to repeat itself, and in a big way. Today queensryche.com is happy to announce who the mysterious Dr. X is! It's none other than legendary rock/metal vocalist Ronnie James Dio! These above photos, taken just yesterday, came at the conclusion of Ronnie's vocals and thus puts the wraps on the recording of Mindcirme II.

And there's the coverart.

Dio's an old man, so he's allowed to look like shit.

I don't think I've heard the first Mindcrime. What's this Doctor X business anyway?

He's the villain of the piece, the guy who runs the big revolutionary movement and who brainwashes the main character into assassinating folks.

Thing is, Dr X speaks in the first Mindcrime and sounds nothing like Dio... I guess consistency isn't an issue, unless they do a Star Wars and rerelease Mindcrime with Dio redoing the voice.

Oh right, so it's just a spoken thing, rather than singing? Or both? Sounds interesting. It's a concept album, yeah?

Well, spoken on the first album. Looks like it'll have some songs on the second (at least one, anyway).

Yeah, tis a concept album. :) Go listen, Winnie, it's the bee's knees.

I think they look awesome. Dio's hair is :headbang:

Tate has aged very gracefully.

I have the first Mindcrime on cassette - but haven't given it much of a listen yet. Had it for a while as well. It's back in Adelaide though, so I won't get to for a while. What I did hear was pretty awesome, mind you.

Ah I will have to give it a listen sometime, if I can get my hands on a copy. It's on The List.

Give Halford another listen, Spiffo!

I have, I've just never understood the appeal. Yeah, he sings really high. It doesn't do anything for me.

Could never really get into Priest much, to be honest. A few songs are good (The Sentinel rules) but the rest is just... meh. Maiden do it much better.

I've tried listening to his live album, thought it was awful. And yes, I know I'm very much in the minority with that one. :) Just doesn't sound like a live album.
