For years, people have told me that L.A. has the worst traffic ever. That's because they've never been to Manila, where the average rush-hour traffic is 4 mph. A friend of mine told me Bangkok was worse, with people getting out of their cars during a jam to smoke.

Now, I thought nothing could be worse than that. Well, I was wrong.

In Beijing, China, commuters have been stranded on a major highway since August 14, with cars moving at most 1 kilometer (0.62 miles) a day and the traffic jam stretching to 100 kilometers (62 miles). For locals, this gives them huge marketing opportunities by selling water, ramen and cigarettes to commuters at overly inflated prices.

Now for those living in L.A.: be glad that at least you get to your destination on the same day.

They are embarked in the world's greatest freeway-building right now because of this problem. Luck to them....

Most likely they went off the roadside, pottied in the dirt and covered it up like campers are supposed to do. Most Chinese were born rural and would know to do this,
