Andy Interview (kemper related).

What a great interview! Thoughts:

That's nuts about tricking the Kemper
Great to hear Andy's thoughts on the industry, less money around but quality is still there
Fear Factory, Katyklysm, I am buying both
Interesting about young, new bands vs. established

Thank you for posting!

haha was about to go in here and post it, great vid!

I've been wanting to try something similar like the trickery, see if it works, I'd call it "remote kempering", if someone doesn't have a kemper

Send out the alien stuff to the Daw, record it, let someone reamp, feed the reamped alien into the kemper while profiling.
Send a DI to refine, let the other one reamp, feed the same DI and the reamp back into the kemper for refining.

Haven't tried if that works, but it seems to be similar to what andy was talking about.
I guess for the refining part it works the same, using the original DI from the album and the original reamp.
No idea how to get the alien part tho, maybe through setting up a similar rig? Or via some kind of modeler algo inside the daw like the ezmix he was talking about, and the let it smooth out with the refining...seriously wicked for sure haha

From what I understood he made an amp sim inside the exmix developers kit, profiled it, and then played a pre-recorded DI into the input of the kemper while simultaneously sending the reamped signal into the kemper return, and used this for refining.

Love how while explaining why he doesn't work with new bands his face looks like he just wants to shout "Are you fucking kidding?! it's because i'm Andy fucking Sneap that's why!"

I like how Andy's attitude towards the industry is moderately optimistic instead of the overly fatalistic routine you hear all the time. I'd like to see him work with younger bands the way Collin does. This just makes me wish I had a Kemper more than I already did lol

Am I the only one who's really really really bothered by soooooooooooo much high-end detail on the dude's voice? I can literally hear saliva bubble up on the interviewer's tongue, LOL.

oh shit. So he's going back and eq matching old records he's done, making amp sims based on them, then using the kemper to profile those, and then using the original recorded tracks and DI's to refine it to a near exact match of previous recorded tones.

Genius. So he can just pull up that Doomsday Machine tone any time he damn well pleases.

I'm so happy to hear Andy isn't some analog gear snob and keeps pushing his productions forward with advances in technology. What a great idea with the playing the tracked amp with the DI. In making my impulses I've been thinking of fun ways to trick the Kemper and my DAW into making better and better profiles and impulses I'm super excited after hearing this.
