hi,

May be some of you guys have picked this album up? I do love Bachs vocals and the album IMO is pretty good.
However i think the mix/production sounds a little un-polished or may be cheap/unprofessional...
Would anyone else like to commment? I wonder if it has anything to do with letting Bach be involved in the mixing? I think the vocals are too loud sometimes in the mix especially on the tracks where Axl Rose guests; that to me really sounds like they were yelling down a cheap mic at the same time...
?
regards:u-huh:

I've been a closet skid row fan for years. I thought people would have made fun of me, but it seems that Sebatian never lost his "street cred" with a lot of metalheads, which is kind of surprising to me, given how vicious most metalheads can be.

I need to check out his new one.

Read great things about this album, so I listened to it and was very disappointed. It's so far from the quality of a "Slave to the Grind", and the production is pretty bad in my opinion (the guitars are horrible, plus there are some weird things going on on Baz' vibratos, as if they were artificial... listen to the end of "By Your Side"). I think he can do better and I surely hope he will, Sebastian is an amazing singer indeed!

Edit: Listening to it again, the guitars are not that horrible actually, only in some places... Agree about the vocals being way too loud.

Raw is fine by me but its inconsistent. The production just sounds abit all over the place. Sometimes guitars sound good other times not so. And even though it is Bach (who sounds awesome!): his vox at times don't sit in the mix...IMO :goggly:

The production sounds like most other things that Roy Z has done (Dickenson, Halford)... the drums are really clicky and quiet, the guitars are super loud and the vocal is even louder.

The album hasn't really done anything for me... it's got great players and performances but I just don't like the songs...

Awesome to see some talk about Slave to the Grind! Always and forever one of my top 5 albums of all time...seriously, I put it right up there with the classic Maiden and Priest stuff. I understand the hair metal tag because of the first album, but Slave to the Grind and Subhuman Race had some HEAVY stuff on them, and they were an amazing band.

Sadly, when I went to Michael Wagener's studio a couple of years ago, we talked a ton about that album (and his mixing Master of Puppets), and he said there's no way Skid Row will EVER reunite the original lineup. He said it was way, way too ugly. So sad.

As for the new one, I agree that the mix is inconsistent. I think it's a step in the right direction though, and has a few really good songs. A lot of mediocre "Metal by numbers" stuff as well. Baz is one of the greatest Metal singers ever. Good to see some love here.

Amazing album, just listened to it at a friend's house and now he's buying me a copy for my birthday. Love the production too, and I have NEVER been closet about being a HUGE fan of Skid Row (with Sebastian Bach that is.) Slave To The Grind and Subhuman Race are fucking CLASSIC and BRUTAL.

I can respect the other guys for wanting to continue as a band but they should have changed the name - it's not Skid Row without Sebastian Bach.
