Actually I'm in the middle of nothing, recording a band.
For the first time I can use my new Marshall 1960 and I did a speaker shootout to decide wich speaker I can use.

BR: http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1436721/Marshall_BR.mp3
TL: http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1436721/Marshall_TL.mp3

It's a slanted cab. I miced every speaker with an sm57 (the 2 top speaker with the mic angled, to aim straight the grill cloth).
Amp was my Savage 60.

p.s.
I'm using 3 mics at the moment (to have different options). I have an sm57 aimed when the cone meet the dust cup, and a superlux (neumann replica) in the center of the same speaker. Another sm57 in another in another speaker.
Do you have some advice about gt75 micing tecnique/good spots etc...?
Thanks

BL.

BR sounded bigger, but at the same time it wasn't as focused as BL.

wen micing my g12ts (tend to just use v30s these days for micing in the cab though) i tend to go for either pos 2 or pos 3 mainly due to the size of the dustcap

How do you usually mic the top speakers in a slanted cab? Do you put the mic perpendicular to the cab like when you mic a straight cab, or do you put the mic on axis with the speaker (angled)?

I actually prefer TL, lol... because it sounds the most like how guitars should sound in a mix imo (it gots some nice mids and sounds still huge and tight the way I like it)

to me, on axis means perpendicular to the flat "face" of the source...So in the case of a slanted cab's top speakers, the mic would be perpendicular to the flat face of the grill, which is angled a bit in comparison to miking a straight cab.
