Anthelion - Lines X
Demo - 2002

By Mark Bridgeman

Having mislaid the bio that came with this demo cd in the cavernous corners of UM HQ, and unable to access the official site mentioned on the CD or the Italian Metal Alliance (www.gonow.to/ima), all I know about ANTHELION is this: it's Italian power/progressive metal, and kicking music it is too.

The production is not 100%, but it's clear enough for all instruments to be heard individually. Vocalist Marco Marinotti has a gruff voice that sometimes strains to reach the high notes he tries for, but at least he doesn't sound like his nuts are in a vice, and his style does complement the harder prog metal that Anthelion pump out.

This 3 track-plus-an-intro EP does it's job, however - it showcases the band's talent (and talent they have) as a harder-edged progressive unit with sharp songwriting skills and a taste for melody. If they're still around (and I hope their lack of a working website doesn't suggest otherwise), they may well have a chance to make a mark on the euro prog/power scene.
