ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante says that the band's follow-up to "For All Kings" album will be "a little more aggressive and angrier." Released in February 2016, "For All Kings" was called by some critics ANTHRAX's strongest album to date. Its arrival followed a five-year period during which the band experienced a rebirth of sorts, beginning with ANTHRAX's inclusion on the 2010 "Big Four" tour with METALLICA, SLAYER and MEGADETH, and continuing with the 2011 release of comeback LP "Worship Music". Asked in a new interview with Metal Rules about the progress of the songwriting sessions for ANTHRAX's next disc, Benante said: "With 'Worship Music', I had no expectations. I felt confident about the record was great, but you really only know how great it is when other people hear it and give you their response. "I have learned through the years that you think you are sitting on a fucking goldmine and when that goldmine comes out, it gets reduced to nothing. "The momentum from 'Worship Music' to 'For All Kings' was great, because I had Joey's [Belladonna] voice in mind and knew I was writing for that voice, so it became much easier. There was also an abundance of songs that just came out, which I was so happy about. "This album we are working on now, [the songs] are a little more aggressive and angrier, only because the climate we are all living in is reflected in our music. "When I come in with something, I have hopes and dreams that the song is going to be as great as I hear it in my mind. I think the other guys stepped up as well and want to hit a home run on each song. Everybody in the band stepped up their game." ANTHRAX's upcoming disc will be the band's third full-length release since the return of Belladonna, who came back into the fold for the "Big Four" shows, in the process helping inspire a new wave of creativity. ANTHRAX is supporting SLAYER on the first two legs of the latter outfit's last-ever North American run of dates. Also appearing on the bill are LAMB OF GOD, TESTAMENT and BEHEMOTH (with NAPALM DEATH replacing BEHEMOTH for the second leg). ANTHRAX's most recent release was the live-in-concert DVD, "Kings Among Scotland", which came out on April 27 via Megaforce.
